A year ago, I would have rated Red Dawn Martial Arts and Kickboxing Centre a 4 because that is just me, however, they (Masters Elliott, Marcano, Maloney and Corazza) have all been nothing but supportive and nurturing. My son was bullied at school and therefore, was unsure of himself. Since signing him up in July 2015, he has blossomed into a more self-aware individual. He still has a long way to go and that is fine with me as he is young and will get where he needs to be. I believe that you get what you want out of every experience. So you can either sign you child up and bring them in for their classes, sit and watch them and leave, or you can bond with your child's Masters in order to open a line of communication in order to set goals - how are they going to know what you want if you don't say it? Some come just for the fitness aspect, while others, like my son, want to compete and get to their 1st degree black belt. Master Elliott teaches the youngest students (4 to 6), handles new client registrations, as well as serving as a personal coach in health and fitness and that is just scratching the surface. All of this I have personally witnessed as the younger classes are held earlier in the afternoon and then at 6 pm the older kids under 10 have class. When my son signed up, he was in that 6 pm class. I had an opportunity to bond with many of the parents and even children from the early class when I would arrive early for my son's class to start. My son is now in the 7 pm class due to his age. Masters Marcano, Maloney and Corazza all teach during that time while Master Elliot is either going to teach the kickboxing class or on a Tuesday, get some paperwork done. I have grown very comfortable within in this establishment and over time have sought out advice for my son's training and attitude from pretty much all the Masters and they in turn have offered the required support/advice. They serve as wonderful mentors if you seek them out and ask. Most recently, both my daughter and I have signed up for kick boxing classes and are having a great time working out and having fun! This would not be possible if I were not comfortable (I have never been in a group workout and hate the gym environment). The reason that I have been able to get past those feelings is because Red Dawn has an open-door approach to teaching and learning which breeds a family-like environment. Like I said earlier, you get what you want out of a service. There are far too many people coming and going for every child to get one-on-one attention (just like in school) so if you see something you want corrected or just have a simple question, approach any one of the Masters and they are always happy to assist - and if they can't...they either direct you to the Master who can or they get back to you. That has been my experience anyway. The receptionist has many duties, such as acting concierge, childcare provider for the afterschool program, tracking attendance, completing reports for the parents to see how their children are doing in the afterschool program - to name a few. I have walked in and she can't give me her direct attention and I move on and wait until she is free. This is a business that is being run and no one who works there is just sitting around or hiding under the radar. I love this place, they are like a family to me and I would highly recommend any parent sign their child up and at least try it out for themselves to see. Added bonus alert: it is a peanut-free environment in every room! For the above reasons, and trust me there is so much more positive to be said, I give them a 5!
