I went here when it had a middle school. The education system here is dysfunctional. They taught me elementary school math and taught me nouns and verbs and simple English terms instead of making me read books when I was in 7th grade. Some teachers were good but some were horrible. They pick the strongest men to watch over the resource rooms (rooms used for punishment AND for sensory purposes), which means restraints are painful. They annoy people on purpose and cannot handle children with special needs. This school is also extremely strict. You can’t talk about anything really. Anything with even a slither of what this school thinks is inappropriate is taboo, and they will stop you from talking about something. You can’t even talk about bands that make innapropitate music, even though you aren’t even talking about the music! They pile up punishments too. Get suspended, and the next day you get an in school suspension. Don’t send your child to this prison.

They don't teach the kids anything but from a book. They treat the students like they are retarded. When fights break out between the students staff does nothing. Make carry around a point card with is stupid. Real schools don't make students have a point card system.

I went there in 1989-91 and it was a great school, even for kids as bad as I was back then. My favorite teachers were... Mr. Prodey, Mrs Barksdale/Freeman( before and after she married Mr Freeman who was a great theacher, but I didn't have), Mr., and Mrz- T, and the list goes on. These were some of the best teachers i ever had. They would let me get a group of students together to put on a live rock concert in the gym on the stage, and they would sometimes even bring in the whole school to watch. There were a lot of musicians for staff there too... Including Lenny the custodian that played drums like the best jazz Kats in the biz. I had a great experience at The Hannah More Academy, and I would like to thank every one of those great teachers for everything they did for me in my years there!!

The purchase of the school by Sheppard Pratt Health had a negative impact on the level of services provided. Clinical staff turnover was constant, class sizes increased, more kids with emotional issues were accepted into the school and teacher turnover increased accordingly. The school administration and remaining staff are still very talented and caring professionals, they are just working under a workload that limits the chances for student success.
