Our 5th grader started at Swallowtail in 1st grade. Prior to Swallowtail he attended Pacific University's Early Learning Community for pre-k and kinder. We were looking for a school with smaller class size and a similar welcoming environment as Pacific. Swallowtail appealed to us (and still does) with its class size, methodology for teaching that engenders a love of learning in an environment of respect and warmth between faculty, students and parents. The ways of Waldorf education may sound "too" alternative depending on what you read online. My husband and I work in high-tech and are a pretty normal family. We value the learning environment of Swallowtail and think it's a worthwhile investment to set him up for future success in school, college and life. Kids are taught in a way that the knowledge can become more rooted in their minds (vs. memorization) and on topics appropriate for their stage of development. We wondered about the transition to high school in 9th grade (Swallowtail goes through 8th). We can see from talking with alumni that students are able to thrive in public or other high schools. Confidence built and rigor of the curriculum set students up to adapt to a new learning environments and excel.

An amazing school that addresses the needs of the whole child: physical, emotional, intellectual, social...we are lucky to have found this school.

Today is my son's last day of first grade. He loves his school and his teacher. I don't think I have EVER heard him say he doesn't like school or that he doesn't want to go to school. I think it is a testament to the teacher and the school that even in this last week of the school year he is sad that he won't get to go back to school until fall.

Swallowtail School has given my daughter a LOVE of school! Instead of I hate school, we now hear I LOVE my school and she can't wait to return after weekends and holidays. This school truly provides education for the whole child. The teachers focus on curriculum AND character. They also have such an incredible knowledge of child development and temperaments that I am constantly learning from them and gaining effective tools to use with both of my children at home. I finally feel like my children will get the education they need, in a place they will truly enjoy learning. Thank you Swallowtail!
