We looked at MANY different potential martial arts programs for our child. From the first meeting with Renshi Sue it was clear this place was different. You don't want the programs SO easy that they don't learn the actual art or develop the discipline, not SO hard they lose interest. This program hits the perfect balance. Hanshi Jarem Is TOUGH on them yet also tender and funny. Knows every kid. They seek his praise and follow his guidance. This has been terrific for our son, who is a sensory seeker, and while he's only been here since very end of April, I see improvement like I've never seen in anything else. There is, like everywhere else, the occasional kid who "expects" to up rank despite not doing the work. Every other dojo I've seen gives rank so they can keep parents $$$; not so here. Child's development first, period. There was this one time where it was was probably the first time this child ever heard no, and while your heart breaks a little with their tears (it was handled with dignity in private, but you could tell on his face later), you also know that it's probably one of the best things to happen to him. False self esteem (without the work) is actually highly damaging to kids, leading to depression and anxiety as young adults. Letting kids take some lumps is hard. Lots of dojos talk about character, but don't actually follow through. Here, they do. VERY compassionately, but firm. Guess who does the work now and has a new spring in his step? It's great to see. Even when there are huge classes there are always enough teachers, and they break it up into same-level groups. The first time I heard my son count to 10 in Japanese in front of the class I shot up in my seat like "when the heck did he learn that?!". I'm continually amazed at the program, but even more so at the people. I don't have the words to do them justice. You need to just try it. I think they do 2 1:1 classes to try it/see if it works for everyone. We are grateful for this influence. I'd rather cut out lunches for dad and I than cut this from our budget.

US Budokai is fantastic for all ages! All of the instructors are eager to answer questions and accommodate clients' needs. It is conveniently located just off Route 9. The children's classes are a great start and there is a kids' area for parents who need to keep their kids occupied while taking a class. Rockin' Kickboxin' is a great workout for all fitness levels (and it's affordable). Positive atmosphere with attentive, informative staff. We are so thankful for this place!

Absolutely incredible program. The staff is experienced and dedicated. By providing a traditional training regimen with contemporary kickboxing fitness classes, you will be hard pressed not to find something to meet your fitness needs. If you want to study the martial arts, I cannot recommend this place high enough.
