Economy Plumbing? - An ironic name for someone so expensive and rude. Story: Our shower broke. The lift rod (that thingy you pull that changes the direction from the bath tap to the shower head) stopped doing it's job. We talked to some experts (honest plumbers who were too busy) and I was told the parts were about $20 and the labour somewhere around $50 dollars. Okay. A bit high. But $70 to fix a knob that you pull up is better than not showering at all. Economy Plumbing enters. Everyone else was booked solid. After 5 days of no showers (we did bathe!). I did what any new homeowner might do--called my dad. He said that he hadn't worked with this company before but was thinking about getting them to install his bathroom (not happening now). I called while I was at work and left my phone number name and address on their machine. (1st mistake). meanwhile at home, my wife answers the door and the plumber obviously smelled opportunity. After 30 minutes of light labour, he tells my wife it's $130! She laughed and asked if he was joking. If we paid in cash (2nd mistake) he would knock it down to a cool $120. How generous of our economically minded plumber! Of course she opted for the lower price--any price after the first quote sounded reasonable. He grabbed the cash and left. No receipt. No work order. No workmanship guarantee. When I called to ask how his pricing worked: He said, "I show up. I do the work and you pay what I say." Eventually he admitted-- 12 dollars for the part and that it took him only 45 minutes. I understand that good labourers are in demand. I also understand that this demand sometimes causes them to raise their prices a little. But the glibness with his reply and the way he showed no shame in admitting that he rips innocent housewives off is the reason why I'm writing this review. When I said I would write this review: He responded with, "I'm too old. Nothing scares me anymore. Next time use kijiji." Well Sir, I hope the money was worth it. Anyone know of any honest plumbers in the area?
