A warning fault occurred on a Toyotomi OM180 boiler which continued to operate after resetting it. I contacted Preferred Plumbing and questioned what it would cost to have a service technician analyze the boiler. I stated that the boiler was already six years old and if it would cost over five hundred dollars to service it, I would be better served to put that money into a new boiler as they only cost twenty three hundred new and were now an improved model. I was assured that would not be a problem. Their technician analyzed the boiler and determined that the unit was in need of a routine annual/semiannual service, cleaning and adjustment as well as replacing the ignition electrodes. All of which I am told, are well within normal maintenance parameters. The technician worked approximately three and a half hours on the boiler excluding breaks and lunch. During this time I was informed that in order for him to clean the soot from the heat exchanger he would have to damage a six inch connector to the existing flue pipe because he would have some difficulty removing it. I was told I would have to purchase an entire $350 "through-wall flue/air intake assembly" as they did not stock the small part I required. And, if i didn't want a substantial additional charge I should drive the 120 mile, two and a half hour round trip to their shop and pick up the part myself. Fearing the additional cost and an incomplete job, I did so. When I returned home, the exchanger was cleaned but the top of the boiler was distorted and bent in a number of places. The technician appeared annoyed that I had mentioned the damage and only explained he had more difficulty in removing the pipe than he had thought. He quickly attached the pipe piece, fired the unit, tested it, gathered his tools and left. The boiler is presently running. The problem is that I was charged almost FIFTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for this service and that's with me being their parts runner. As a retired contractor I know that this type of service runs only $300 to $500 including parts. No one in their right mind would routinely spend $1500 annually or even semiannually to service a $2300 boiler. You could just purchase a brand new unit every other year and pocket the difference, even with installation costs. I talked to the owner of Preferred Plumbing and got no answers, no apology, no real explanation of the extraordinary price, only a series of very smug chuckles. I will never use Preferred Plumbing again, ever. If you "prefer" to pay three times more for your "plumbing" than what other qualified companies charge, while you run for their parts and end up with a damaged machine, go ahead. As for me, never, NEVER again.

I used this company since I bought my home. I refuse to give my cc over the phone before any work is done and the woman was insulting. I do not recommend this company due to poor customer relations.

Staff knowledgeable and helpful they carry parts for what they sell. Pruduct They carry are quality items. Take them a drawing and they can put together a material list for plumbing, heating and water treatment.
