We came from far to eat here. The service was good; we had the Pepe’s fajita mix (shrimp, streak & chicken) however the chicken smelled bad & it tasted awful. It was as if they left it out & the chicken was rotten. We had the waitress take it back & they only discounted 1/2. We didn’t eat the platter because the smell was so strong, even though the shrimp & steak were good.. they took everything back. They finally discounted the platter off our receipt & we gave the waitress a $20 tip (the price of the platter). What we did not like is that they made it seemed like we were just making it up & like we just didn’t want to pay for it. My husband & I would never make anything up like this, besides we paid for the plate by giving her that big tip. We’re very disappointed on how they treated us & the way they made us feel. The margarita drinks were good, the steak taco & enchilada dinner were good. It was the chicken that was bad. The manager never came out to talk to us, the poor waitress kept going back & forth telling us what the cooks & manager said. Very disappointed & will never come back here again.

Speaking as a life-long Garfield resident - Pepes is under new ownership and the owners clearly take great pride in their property - by giving the place a facelift and their food is still good, if not better than before. They have weekly drink deals and a friendly staff. ...if there's any room for improvement- they could get better mood lighting but whatever

This was the dirtiest and most distcusting restaurant i've ever been to.The waiter just mumbled and had the personality of a dead horse. Speaking of dead horses, i'm pretty sure that is what the meat was made up of. The price was also extremely high. On top of all that the waiter took our order, turned around, and promptley blew a fart directly in my face!

Visited Pepe's (7026 Archer) for the first time in maybe over 15 years. I had received a coupon in the mail for a buy one entree and get another of equal or lesser value for free. Seems like a good deal, right? So decided to give it another shot and try it again. So my gf and I visited this last Mon. night. (2/19/18) ready to see if Pepe's was any better than when I last remembered it. I mentioned the coupon at the very start to our waitress, and proceeded to order. I got the Chilles Rellenos (2 chilles, 14.99), and my GF got the Enchilladas en Mole sauce (12.99). Aside from that, we each got a beer. It's Mon night, so we're keeping it light. Neither of us was exactly happy with our food. And we're Latino, accustomed to traditional Mexican dishes, so i suppose we expected more authenticity from a place that charges over $20 for fajitas. However, the "Salsa Ranchera" used on the Chilles Rellenos was bland, and without substance; no veggie chunks, no trace of chillies, etc. The flour and egg coating on the Chille also tasted weird, like store bought. Bleh! My GF's Enchilladas werent any better. The red 'Mole" sauce used was watery. Its the type you can find at your local grocery store where you just add water or broth. Essentially, they charge authentic Mexican dish prices, for inauthentic and lazy Mexican style cuisine. Does it taste horrible? Well, no. Does it taste terrific? Well, no. Bot for the prices they charge, we did expect better. If prices were more along the line of reasonable for inauthentic food, i would not be so harsh w my review. Anyhow, when the check came I saw the waitress had only discounted a total of $9. I mentioned the coupon again and how it referenced a buy one get one of equal or lesser value... But she pointed out the small writing claiming a limit of $9. I assumed it meant I had to buy a couple of entrees of at least $9 each, not that the benefit itself was only up to $9. So long story short, we were dissapointed in more ways than one. Mind you, the waitress could have been more clear about the coupon limitations when I was courteous enough to mention it at the very start before we ordered anything. Also, she took our order at the start, and gave us the bill at the end. Never, not even ONCE did she come around to ask how our food was. The food itself was brought to the table by the cook or bus boy or whatever he was. So 2 stars.. more like 1.5 really. I threw away the remainder of the coupons I got from them and it may well be another 15 years before I every visit again.
