I contacted CDI College in the fall of 2020 for information on their Social Media Specialist Certificate, and although I did ask the right questions to their student counselor such as “do I need a marketing degree of some kind to take this certification?”, their reply was “you don’t need to know marketing to take this certification” which was an absolute lie. The first two courses were a breeze, but as soon as we got to the actual digital marketing subjects, not only did I quickly realized that I had been duped for my money (17k in student loans) but also their teachers confirmed with me that you DO need to have a marketing degree to fully understand how this certification would tie into marketing. One of those teachers was clearly upset that they had lied to me and brought me in under false pretences. That was my first wake up call.
