Doesn't follow through

We had Bob out to look at a job in early fall and he was responsive and gave a reasonable quote. It was an unheated interior job, so needed to be done in warmer weather. Originally he said he could get to it in the fall, then had to push to "first thing" in the spring, 4-5 months away, which we had said was fine since we didn't need it done til summer. Turns out it was a bad omen. I reached out in the spring after not hearing from him, only to be told that he would need at least 2 more months, which I had been clear was not workable because we needed the space by late May. He didn't offer to squeeze in our 2 day job or suggest another option - simply went back on his word and left us in a lurch. I know everyone's phones are ringing off the hook, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect contractors to follow through on their commitments, especially when a customer offers a ton of flexibility. Look elsewhere if you want a painter who will do what they say they're going to do.
