This review is about the Stockroom, the speakeasy in the back. It only hold about 30 people. I had a fabulous time here. The bartenders were great, generous with tastings, and made excellent cocktails. It was fun chatting with them about drinks and life. It was busy all Saturday night. So you may have to wait (ring the bell in front of if it's after-hours, don't sneak in from the alley).

Guy behind the counter (owner?) bragged to a distributor about his significant price markup across the board and how it doesn’t matter because his patrons expect to pay more. Don’t get scalped here, go to any of the other local outlets. Edit: love the gaslighting from the owner.

I didn’t love my experience. The person working seemed very uninterested in helping me. I felt looked down upon because I didn’t know a lot about wine. The word “snooty” comes to mind. Unlikely that I will spend money here in the future. Oh well…old town Arvada is cute and fun to shop around in at least.

The difference between my first and most recent interaction here is pretty stark. The first time I was in, the person working was super knowledgeable & helpful, directing me to fun wines and helping me pick several bottles. The store was neat and nicely laid out. Most recently, the store is chaotic, with boxes all over the floor and piled up against the racks. The person working did not seem interested in helping, and only pointed me to a couple of bottles when I asked. When I paid, he didn’t even offer to bag up my bottles, instead directing me to grab a bag & pack it myself. I had to use an open box of miscellaneous wine & whatnot to set the bag down, which was unsteady and risked the wine I’d just paid for. Having worked retail for years, I would not consider this acceptable customer service. I was also keen to check out The Stockroom (a little speakeasy type set up out back) but the person working did not seem to know anything about it…he couldn’t tell me anything about the menu and didn’t give any information, just a lot of “I don’t know.” Even just “I’m not very familiar with the menu, but please feel welcome to head back and check it out.” would have been better. I love shopping local and was excited to support the new venture but this wasn’t a welcoming experience. I got my few bottles and ended up going elsewhere for a glass of wine.

Spirit Wine Provisions, and The Stockroom are located 22 miles from my house, and worth every bit of the 40 minutes from my home. The front side, Spirit Wine Provisions, carry’s a great selection of curated wines, spirits, and beer that you won’t find in big box liquor stores. With a staff that is able to walk you through the history, production, and flavor notes of their products. The whiskey/bourbon selection is great along with being priced appropriately. They even had a Don Julio private cask that has quickly become one of my favorite tequilas. This isn’t a gigantic store in a good way, they learn about the products they sell, they taste the products they sell, they want you to leave informed and with what you’re looking for. The Stockroom, it doesn’t get better than this. Tucked into the backside of the building a phenomenal Speakeasy, with a phenomenal staff. Jeremy, Mason, Evans, Brian, and Quinn are who I’ve run into behind the bar. Each extremely knowledgeable in their craft, whether you’re looking for wine, a mixed drink, a neat pour of your favorite spirit or wanting to explore something new, you’ll be well taken care of. This is the best service I’ve received at a bar/speakeasy. You’re in the best hands when you’re back there. Long story short, if it’s close by, go. If it’s far, go. You will be happier supporting a great local business with a great staff, that provides great product.
