If you want a place that offers an impressive brown liquor list, coupled with atmosphere appropriate leather couches and chairs, and completed with dim lighting where you can hear yourself have an actual conversation - look no further. There is even a cigar list on offer, with a smoking section upstairs if you want to complete the experience. I can't speak for the cocktails, and if the dim lighting and whiskey isn't your thing I would definitely look elsewhere. But then again, the place IS called Whiskey, what did you expect?

Apparently, if you went to Whiskey in its heyday (the first year) it was "the place to be" - an awesome scene, friendly people, nice bartenders, cool decor, and interesting classes about whiskey, tequila and other liquors. However, having only started experiencing it in the last year, I just don't get it. I've been probably 10 times by now, and can't get into it. Sure, the leather soaked decor is gorgeous and it's cute that all the bartenders wear suspenders to give it that 'speakeasy' feel. But the cocktail list is expensive and limited, and I've been refused drinks on more that one occasion because they "don't have that ingredient upstairs, only downstairs" or because they're not "seasonally appropriate". And just like another reviewer, I've been scolded for moving a chair. One improvement is that downstairs is non-smoking and the former "club room" has become the smoking area, because it's nice to be able to enjoy the atmosphere without abusing one's lungs. Still, I just don't find the appeal to be strong enough to justify the high prices and the stiff service. Although I must give a shout-out to Anthony - he's the friendliest bartender in the place and always a pleasure to chat with.

Whiskey is a bar serving just that — all manner of whiskeys. They have a decent number of local beers too, which earns them points. Their cocktails attempt to recreate those from the speakeasy days, though frankly I was unimpressed. The Aviator will put hair on your chest, and not in a good way. Service is pleasant if a bit slow. The space is dark and quiet, though I imagine it fills up on the weekends. Go if you enjoy a strong cocktail and don't mind the smell of stale cigar smoke.

A fun speak-easy in the middle of Durham. After visiting Bourbon and Branch in San Francisco, Whiskey was a fun reminder of how cool these places are. Going out with a few friends and grabbing a drink this is a great place to start, roam to, or end the night. Plus for the cigar smoker they have you covered. Upstairs offers a nice selection of smokes and a relaxing leather chair to keep you comfy.

I've been to Whiskey twice. The first time it took us about 15 minutes to get a drink and they were not that busy. There are no cocktail waitresses. The bartender was arrogant, even rude. It was really strange because the place is not that nice. I've dined and had drinks in many really nice places throughout the world; Trust me this is not one of them. The second time we went, on a hot summer evening, we were not even allowed in because I was wearing sandals (leather Tevos mind you). The guy who turned us away was wearing polyester pants and a cheap shirt. How pretentious. This place is a bad joke. WE WENT TO ALLEY TWENTY SIX INSTEAD AND LOVED IT!
