We are new to the area, and have heard many great reviews. We finally went and homestead did not disappoint. Very friendly and down home country fell. Meal great and we know we'll will be returning. Service was excellent!!

I just think it's a miracle this place exists. I read some of the negative reviews.. Staffing is extremely difficult in the food service business and it's compounded in rural areas. I love the place for food, beverage, accommodation. My colleagues and I have used it as a place to hold our meetings - always a pleasure.

My boyfriend and I heard about this place and went last night. It was very under staffed. We waited 1/2 hour and no one even paid attention to us. No drinks, nothing. Then they proceeded to serve 3 other tables that came in after us. We just walked out. Terrible experience. Felt like we were an inconvenience.

While I feel for the staff who work there who I'm sure try their best, this place is anything but a "resort." Stayed a few years back and from family reports, the golf course was very nice, well kept, etc. The "cabins" however are time capsules from the 1970s and stunk of cigarette smoke from decades gone by. The furniture inside is decrepit and most of it too looked from the 1970s, even though there are a few "modern conveniences" like a clock radio and gas powered fireplace (which was the nicest feature in the place). The beds were uncomfortable and small and I saw a noticeable stain one of the bed sheets. The water inside the cabin cannot be consumed which I did not know ahead of time. If you want breakfast, forget it, their restaurant will not serve it unless you specially plan and pay for it ahead of time, and you can't just order breakfast, you have to order an entire meal plan which I believe cost in excess of $50 for both breakfast and dinner combined. Outrageous. Oh, and if you want to order the breakfast, you have to book it in the golf "clubhouse," which is a virtual shack which needs a complete overhaul. I was amazed that one had to organize a meal plan at the GOLF CLUBHOUSE. The lake view is pretty but even the boards on the dock are loose and in need of repair in many places. The road in front of the cabins is just dirt and grass, and our cabin had a single cement patio stone as the "doormat," whereas others have nothing whatsoever save for probably a wooden piece covered in decaying fabric; I almost slipped a few times going in and out. This place was probably something special when it first opened. The cabins are solid wood but years of neglect have turned this place into a complete dive. The ownership should be ashamed. This place likely needs hundreds of thousands of dollars in renovations (probably more). Likely, the only way the place will see upgrades is by waiting for a land developer to come along and hopefully offer a ton of money to buy the place so they can spend the money to fix it up. EDIT: The owner claims there is embellishment here. What I wrote was 100% TRUTH and they should be ashamed for slandering one of their "guests" who posted an HONEST review. I have no bone to pick with this place, but when they want to call their cabins "rustic" when they feature ripped furniture and dented appliances, that's just disingenuous. My pictures do NOT lie. Did the cabins stink of smoke? YES. Did I almost slip a few times on a piece of wood covered in rotting fabric going in and out of the cabin? YES. Did I expect a five star experience? Give me a freaking break. But did I expect something more than an uncomfortable stay straight out of the 1970s? YES. I stand by what I wrote and I know the owners are very defensive. The truth hurts sometimes, and hey, maybe use this as an incentive to improve things, which if you are, GREAT. I wish you ALL THE BEST.
