I do dislike having to pay for insurance, as I'm sure most of us do. When I retired my employer said that I could continue my medical/dental insurance with Sun Life and get a good rate as an ex member. This didn't turn out to be true. I contacted them and set up a meeting and found out that there was no deal. They declined me for their best insurance package and said they'd consider me if I lost 10lbs. Their rates were very high and there was pressure to commit before a certain date, so my husband and I opted for just for medical/prescription coverage, which was almost $4000 a year. We couldn't afford to add dental and it turned out much cheaper just to pay for our own dental care. After being with them for a year, I did the math and found out we were paying far more to them than we were getting back as there was a cap on how much we could claim for prescriptions. Yes they do give you added coverage, like travel insurance, hospital semi/private room bed coverage and allied health coverage, but in reality few of us use this and so we're paying for things we'll never use. So I cancelled the plan and now we're saving money by not having insurance. One thing that did alarm me was that during my cancellation, there was a lot of confusion about who was handling my file, so I was passed from agent to agent and ended up with a man who had little patience and his responses were curt. He got me confused with another customer, who's name was quite similar to mine, so when he asked if I also wanted to cancel my dental insurance and I said I didn't have dental insurance, instead of trying to clarify who I was - he sent me all of the paperwork for this other person. TOTALLY VIOLATING this other person's privacy as it had all of her work information, family details and her full name and address. I let him and his boss know and they just brushed it off as if it was nothing. To me, privacy isn't nothing - your information in the wrong hands could be disastrous. So glad I cancelled my policy with them.

I have a life insurance policy with Sun Life Financial. Poorest customer service ever. I've been trying to reach an Agent since last week...calls kept being dropped and no voice mail in agent's office. Customer Service provided me the cell number of the agent which I called and left a voice message. Like I said, it's been a week and my call has not been returned yet. They collect my money each month very quickly but when it comes time to talk to someone it's near impossible. I'm thinking to take my business elsewhere. What kind of company is this if they don't reach out to their consumers when the need arise???
