I opened a savings account in Euro with HSBC one and a half year ago (with a small inheritance via wire transfer) and I did not use it after that. I opened it with HSBC because somebody at Scotia Bank gave me the wrong information about their Euro account at the time (unfortunately that first person was just incompetent because at some other time another representative from Scotia Bank told me their account is the same type as the Euro savings from HSBC except Scotia gives you a very small interest while HSBC gives you no interest). I came at noon to open the account but, the person in charge (who didn't have any other client) told me I had to come the next day because they don't do it without appointment. The next day opening it took longer and with more questions than at any other bank (at TD it was a lot faster and simpler to open USD account). Since opening I received statements and various offer letters and account seemed active at all times but when I tried to exchange some Euros (I needed money for an emergency) I was told the account was dormant. From their website I understand an account goes dormant after 2 years and that they have to inform you (it was opened 1 and a half years ago and nobody informed me). I had to ask in writing for my account to be active again. The person at the counter was not capable of explaining why my account was dormant and told me I had to have activity every 6 months if I don't want it to go dormant again (nowhere on my opening documents or their website says such a thing). I was told the process will take only 2-3 days but it took 9 days for the account to be back to active. And that happened only after extra calls with local manager and with their central number etc. There was no apology or compensation for the fact that I had to use a line of credit to cover my emergency (and I had to pay interest) in the meantime.

I give this company -0 stars, went to the 74 Quarry Edge and meet with Youssaf....the policies are very degrading, in my career of life I have never heard bank refusing anybody to open a checking account because their credit score is below 680, which only allow u to get saving account with 3 transaction a month with charges and that all bank apply same new policy for the last 6 months. If this is the case, then that company HSBC is GREEDY looking for customer that has the best credit in the best of their interest (more $$$ for them), which mean they will probably propose a credit card, line of credit and etc.... to put u in debt! The need of customer is secondary and very meanless for them. The agent give wrong information, on the fact that it is a now new policy that other bank give checking account to only good credit, which I check that policy with BMO and other bank which is a complete lie. However, they still can do a credit check but in order to see if u can be qualified for other product but not to disqualify u for checking-saving. I wouldn't recommend this branch because of non-chalant agent or this company for some policies of this kind.

Absolutely an unfit bank for the Canadian customers. They serve there as such the customer is on their mercy. One of laziest bank employees that I experienced. There should be a - ⭐️ option for the institution like this.

I loved the lady who helped us out in our mortgage application. She was very patient and explained everything we needed to know. Best of all, she was organized and knowledgeable.
