I went on a trail ride with a small group, which had little to no experience riding. Therefore, around half of the ride was actually just doing laps around a riding ring while Bev struggled to get her horses to behave. The least experienced (and smallest) rider was put on a pony who "was great with children but horrible with other horses". This sounded like a recipe for disaster in itself, and then the pony decided not to respond to its rider in any fashion. Did I say disaster already? Anyway. Finally we got going, and the trail ride consisted of Bev shouting at the riders to "keep up!" or "don't get too close!" over and over. The latter was because the horses could not be trusted within a few feet of each other as they did not get along, and this was a big problem the entire time. The best word I can think of to describe this ride was "stressful." Bev was clearly in a rush and gave little instruction, and the fact that the horses seemed to hate each other made me nervous for the young riders with us. We were taken to a "view point" that was really just a hill with too many trees to see anything down below. Not that the horses could even get close enough, as that would mean getting close to the others and starting a fight. In summation, this ride was very rushed, the "lesson" was just riding in circles while Bev got frustrated, the trail was featureless and the horses were not well behaved in a group. Don't waste the money.

The trail ride was very good, the horses were very obedient and sure footed. The hosts were very friendly, but we were disappointed with the camping set up. No shade and the bathroom and drinking water was far away. The B and B looked nice. Public shower and bathroom facility in the same place would be a super improvement. We enjoyed their dog Sheppy.

Spent two nights in their new B&B, which is very nicely equipped and with a private entrance. There are two rooms so you may share the common area with another guest, but private washrooms. Gerd is a retired chef and the breakfasts were amazing. Also went on two separate two-hour group trail rides with Bev and a second guide. The riding was intermediate with walking/trotting through forested trails and along rural roads (no traffic). There was an optional cantering section for those who wished for a bit more speed. The horses are all extremely well cared for behaved with a good selection for different sized and experienced riders, English or western. The rides start with a 1/2 hour in the ring to get used to the horses and for riders' abilities to be assessed (which is a very safe and professional approach). The 2 hour ride focusses more on safety and enjoyment than excitement and the ranch is just out of Nanaimo/Parksville, so not a wilderness cattle-ranch type of experience, but great for a side trip from the ocean beaches or a trip to the Island from Vancouver.

One birthday I got a gift from my husband and daughter (non-riders) they would go riding with me. We booked Paradise Acres Ranch for a ride and the 3 of us + some other riders, went on a ride through forest, crossed ponds, and rode among million dollar estates. Bev owner and guide gave us the "tour" of the area while giving helpful hints in the art of safe riding. I have been back in the saddle at Paradise Acres for 3 years. I train for Competitive Trail Rides and Endurance ridding at the endless trails from The Ranch. What I enjoy the most is the positive feeling from all the horsey people at the ranch, and the great big smiles on our faces after our “stress-blowing” rides.

Met Bev for the first time last week and headed out for a day ride along with seasoned Paradise Acres riders. We had no trouble in gathering up the horses, tacking up and decided half way into the ride to make it an 18 mile trek ;) Loved every minute of it! Lots of beautiful mountain top views, along the river and up along a ridge...through beautiful majestic trails. Great company and most certainly look forward to more rides with this crew. Safe horses and beautiful back country/valley trails and back roads on Vancouver Island! *****The best of the best of BC ***** My boyfriend had his first riding lesson ever in his life (he is 58) and he also loved being out there. We met some wonderful people and their horses that board there. Friendly and every level of riding experience or not. There is something for any age ;) Just like visiting your neighbour!
