I was with a group of 6 skiers that joined Northern Escape in their Classic program. From the start the service was amazing. Their office staff took care of everything and made my life easy. I have to add here that getting to their remote location was surprisingly easy. We flew in via Vancouver directly to Terrace and it was only a 20 min drive to the lodge. The lodge was well appointed and very comfortable. The food was out of this world and all their staff went out of their way to make us feel like home. There was a group there at the same time as us that had been skiing with Northern Escape for something like 12 years. For them it seemed like home and they knew all the staff so well. The skiing, which is what we all come for, was impressive. We had great snow and generally good weather. Their slogan is “It’s Deeper up Here!” and I believe them. The first 2 days we had blue skies and knee deep pow. We spent most of the time up high on the glaciers. Their terrain is immense. Mid-week a storm rolled in and it looked like we were going to be grounded, but the guides hustled us into the helicopters first thing and we flew to their Snowcat Backup area. I was impressed with how quickly we got skiing that day given the weather. It dumped all day that day, but just after lunch the weather broke just enough for the heli’s to pick us up and we finished the day with 6 more heli runs. Without the cat back up we would have missed the first half of the day. Awesome benefit for sure! The rest of the week was spent in a mix of alpine and tree skiing. Their terrain is huge and choice of runs varied nicely. I need to commend them on the organization each day as it’s obvious there are a lot of moving parts in this operation, but we never even noticed. Best skiing experience of my life! I hope to be back one day soon!

I had dreamed of doing this for 15 years. This was a hard lesson. You can expect a staff that will act like you are the most interesting person in the world, followed by cooking that doesn't cater to any kind of diet. Not a big deal. I brought my own food. Next waiting on weather in this area is the worst. There is nothing to do at this facility except watch videos. I'm going off what they supply. I would have brought a book if I had known. Keep in mind that this is an economically depressed area so the towns aren't geared for tourists. After that you can plan on them to try and get your money any way possible. This can be done by taking you down the same run three times and saying you got what we consider a full day. The three runs will involve stopping every 10 seconds to wait for the guide to pick his route and then yours down the mountain. I never rode longer that 10 seconds without having to wait for the guide. One guy I was with got hurt badly due to this system as he followed the guide down a blind role that the guide was familiar with but of course not the person who had never rode it before. He hit a tree hard on a steep part of the run that I'm sure he would have never gotten near if he wan't following someone that you are required to do. All in all this was an awful experience. Think about someone saying that about heli skiing. Yes it's possible and the locals told me not to go here. Point being you get what you pay for. This place is cheap and it's for a good reason. Taking something that is suppose to be fun and turning it into a way to squeeze money out of people is not something I'm a fan off. Be smart and stick with the reputable names. Whistler H.S, Mike Weigele, Last Frontier, the extra money to go to a place that does it right will make all the difference in the experience. I never knew what to expect doing this and I wish someone would have told me these things before I wasted hundreds of dollars at this place. Hope this helps.
