I love the way they make everyone feel respected and cared for!

USTKD is a gentle and respectful place. If you are looking for blood sport, this is not your dojang. Respect is the primary goal. The instructors are all incredibly respectful of the students, recognizing their skills and their challenges. The instructors demand respect for themselves in a firm but gentle way. They encourage the students to be respectful in the world, in their communities, and in their families. I've watched the instructors work with children who have behavioral issues, developmental delays, profound attention deficit, and even when the kids are being disrespectful or otherwise challenging, the instructors communicate with them gently, firmly, and with a smile. Children rise through the belt levels, but on the way, they are encouraged to gain five stripes per belt--one for technique, and the other four for behavior at home and at school, reading, and doing chores. Additionally, there is a monthly behavior challenge, rated by the parents with a thumbs-up. This might be getting along with your sibs or doing what your parents ask the first time they ask. Techniques are taught at the student's level and recognized at that student's personal ability to perform. Every student gets some individual attention--not just the "stars." This has been a very positive place for my very active son, and has been a supportive community for us as we have been hit with some serious family challenges.

USTA is great! I started in grade school and it set perserverance, curtisey, and self-control into my character at an early age. Those traits are so ingrained in me that they have become unbrakeable habits in my adult life. They are the traits that made me stand out amoung my peers in the ARMY, and the traits that got me through college. All of my sucess is thanks to my young training at USTA. Master Choi and Master Lee have always been great rolemodels for me, they not only guided my martial arts they guided me as a person. I Highly recomend USTA Bellingham to everyone and anyone looking for martial arts.

I have had the pleasure of being Master Choi's student since 1997. He has always been kind, patient, compassionate, and best of all possesses a deep knowledge of Taekwondo and martial arts in general. His expertise and leadership can be seen in every USTA staff member and students. Start training and you'll love it!

This place is a joke...I've been learning tae kwon do for 8 years. Not only are their exercises a joke, but the master there has no respect to new black belts, whom it may take time to getting used to in the new situation. He pulled me off to the side and told me that I am the worst student that he's ever seen, only because I wasn't following all the customs that they had, and that I never got time to get use to. Then he had the nerves to bad mouth me in front of me to one of the parents of the student there.
