I very rarely provide reviews or share my views online, especially those containing my full name, due to my line of work. That said, I write this review because my lawyer is beyond deserving of me putting these words forward for others to see; my lawyer is Mr. Dawson Horning with Ahlstrom Wright in Sherwood Park, AB.
I came across Ahlstrom Wright during a critical point in my life and my case fell into Dawson's lap as he was a student at the time. Not knowing anything about him or the firm prior to my case being taken on, I proceeded on instinct after having my first consultation with Dawson (and a fellow lawyer, at that time, before Dawson was called to the Bar in 2018). Dawson was realistic from the start; something he maintained throughout the full duration of my case.
Always carrying a "hope for the best, prepare for the worst" perspective, Dawson kept my expectations in check. My case was very personal in nature and, therefore, there were so many variables and it was far from black-and-white. Even knowing the difficulty of predicting the outcome of my case, due to the many variables cited above, the outcome of my case was nearly identical to what Dawson had quoted me at the start when he took on my case.
I was proceeding on principle and to seek resolution, not for a payday, and as such there was more at stake than just numbers in my case. I needed support, care and most of all - closure; Dawson provided and helped me achieve all of these things in the end. It has been just over 24 hours since my case made its way to the Court, and without speaking too much to my matter for privacy reasons and in respect of the outcome, it felt like a massive weight was lifted from my shoulders as soon as Dawson and I walked out of Court. Due to the complexity of my case, it cost me more to get there than what I would receive back in the form of compensation, but Dawson had been transparent about this since the start and proceeded along the way based on my instructions that I needed resolution and closure after such a long battle. Dawson gave me "a voice" and treated me like a person (especially given how fragile the situation was), not just another client. Dawson showed this when he, more than one time, put the "lawyer talk" down for a moment and would check in to make sure this was what I truly wanted/needed and if I was strong enough to get there since it wasn't an easy road and it wasn't a case that took just a week or a month.
Technically, Dawson was my advocate for two matters - one regarding the protection of myself/my family, and the other being the matter outlined above for which closure was the end-goal. Knowing Dawson achieved both of these is something I will remain grateful for. I saw him excel in negotiations with opposing counsel, and also in the Court setting.
Overall, Dawson is intelligent, professional, honest, transparent, and quite funny which was a relief since, for me personally, I cope with stress by seeking humor in any situation I can. Dawson felt almost like a friend to me at the very end and, although some may avoid the legal process at all costs, it is honest of me to say that I will truly miss him due to the support he offered me. In the most professional sense, Dawson was "my rock". Giving a client that reassurance is priceless and, if he already has this the year after being called to the Bar, I can only imagine that his future clients will be treated with the same care as the years go on. I truly felt like he "always had my back", which is not just what I wanted - it's what I desperately needed.
Dawson - thank you.
Ahlstrom Wright - you have one amazing lawyer under your roof.
