My situation was very convoluted and confusing when I first met with Antonio and Satvinder at Deer Lake Law Group. I was working for an international company that decided to relocate me from the US to Canada. Based on my dad being born in Canada the talent recruiter indicated it would be no problem for me to attain status, however after arriving in Canada I was sent into the field and when I returned the person who was going to help me had been laid off. The remaining staff couldn't help and they told me to consult an immigration attorney. I had a paid consultation with a supposedly reputable immigration attorney who indicated I was not eligible and I should begin the PR process. While pursuing attaining PR status I was then laid off...I was a deer in the headlights, not only was our only source of income gone but my family was now in limbo if we could remain in Canada and how we would afford to move if we were not able to stay. As part of my severance package I was referred to Deer Lake Law Group and immediately Antonio and Satvinder put my mind at ease. There were some challenges to proving my status but the team at Deer Lake did some great research to find the correct path to pursue. Being a scientist, I know research takes time and it costs money to have a professional do this work but again they found the correct path before we approached CIC. Thanks to this due diligence up front we avoided getting into a long back and forth negotiation with the government. However being a bureaucratic process complete resolution still took time, during which my work permit was to expire but the folks at Deer Lake Law Group took the time to help advise my wife and I on how to pursue new jobs and get work permits renewed. Now Canada has a new family, gainfully employed and ready to be productive citizens thanks to the hard work and skills of the team at Deer Lake Law Group.

My first encounter with Deer Lake should have sent me running. As a father in the midst of a high-conflict divorce and who loves his kids more than anything in the world, I was told, "Every day is mother's day in court". Needless to say I didn't have a great deal of confidence instilled in me. The first thing reviewed at length by Deer Lake Law was my income, which was done under the premise of updating my child support obligations. However, I was left with the impression this was done to determine my budget to pay Deer Lake Law on an ongoing basis. Over the course of about one (1) year a great many e-mail exchanges occurred between Deer Lake Law Group and opposing counsel. However, I do not feel as though any progress was made toward addressing the critical issues related to my children. Aside from increased child support, I am left feeling as though this Law Firm was more than happy to exchange e-mails with opposing counsel to the tune of thousands of my hard-earned dollars without resolving any of the issues I had hired them to address. During the communications with Deer Lake Law Group, I was presented with a variety of options as to how I could proceed with various matters, but never really felt as though I was being supported, advocated for or advised by someone who was holding the best interests of my children as a priority. I never felt as though Antonio Simoes or Kate Lee had formulated a strategy or roadmap to navigate my extremely complex case, to give me some much needed peace of mind and to ensure that my children's best interests were met. My experience with Deer Lake Law feels like I am out thousands of dollars without being any further ahead than I was a year ago and that making lots of money is their top priority. At no point did I feel like I had strong support or an advocate. The whole experience felt like nothing more than a series of transactions with a revenue-centric business. While I understand that a law firm is a business, I expected to have a degree of compassion, sympathy and support in dealing with what is most precious to me in this world - my children. In summary, I would not recommend Deer Lake Law to anyone with a new or existing family law case.
