Great Iqra School

My older two kids were at Iqra school. We wish there was education at the school beyond Grade 7. We have seen the school grow in size and quality. I had the honour to meet some of the school founders. My third son now goes to Iqra. I talked to parents who send their kids to other private schools and did some reviewing of other private schools. The school fees are one of the lowest and the academic performance is one of the highest. During COVID-19 challenges, the school has taken steps beyond what is required to assure the student, parents and staff safety. This is still a school on earth not heaven, so may expect some minor deficiencies. However, with everyone's help we can always make it better. Thanks to the teachers, admin, principle and parents for their great efforts!

Welcoming environment, dedicated teachers and a great place for kids to be who they are, learn their deen, and excel academically as well. The workload can be a bit challenging for many, however the pros totally outweigh the cons.

Absolutely not. If you want to save money and save your children from being harassed don’t even try approaching this school. I tried enrolling my toddler back in 2018 (which was nearly 5 years ago) and i’ve been on the waiting list since. I have asked them for a refund ever since and they said that it was a policy that they couldn’t. I didn’t sign any papers or documents. Especially with the wait list, it is so messed up. I paid more than 250 bucks and still didn’t get anything in return . This school is also extremely horrible when it comes to paying fees. The past years it was only 280 per month and per child, and i was fine with that. The next year it was 300, this year it’s 380. I don’t know who in the bc ministry ranked them to where they are today but they deserve to be ranked at the very bottom. This school not only pressured my children, but made them depressed. And i know for sure that I will not be bringing any of my children here. Huge mistake . They say how they offer their students safety when the just offer them anxiety and depression.

My niece attended this school for four and a half years. It being a Muslim school and we being a practicing family, we felt it worth the while to send both children in our family to this school so they’d learn the foundation of Islam among other things. While the first few grades were fine, as the children progressed to higher grades, cracks started appearing. First, the toxicity of the teachers and the attitudes with which they approach teaching. Not all children learn at the same pace and when a child doesn’t apply themselves or have trouble learning, it is not okay to automatically assume the child is lazy or dumb. Children aren’t automatons to be programmed to act in the way adults want them to. Why don’t the teachers ask why the children are acting the way they are? Why don’t they care for the mental health of the students? Why are they loaded with homework every day? Why are the textbooks simply printouts and not actual books? Why is the Arabic language taught with the assumption that all children come from Arabic speaking families? I once tried doing my 4th grade niece’s Arabic language homework and had to give up because even the instructions for the hw are in Arabic. Why are teachers calling parents to complain about students while classes are in session and the students in question are within hearing distance? The lack of respect is clearly apparent. I’ve been left deeply disillusioned by the school’s disregard for the happiness and mental health of its students. I can’t in good conscience recommend this school to anyone.

I have a positive experience with them ,all the staff are super friendly and helpful. I felt very upset for people giving low rate for fees issues. For me it was made clear from the get go the administration fees are non refundable. Please be aware this is a private school and it’s very affordable in comparison with other private schools and even the Christian one.

Both of my kids went to Iqra. They made a lot of amazing memories, lifelong friends, and received great education( both Islamic and secular). Iqra helped them build good character, shape their morals, and keep the deen in mind in everything they do . The Principal, Sr.Randa, is a Principal like no other. She is very hands on and cares about the well-being of each and every student. I have personal experience in her responding to my emails in the middle of the night. Sr.Randa and her staff are very dedicated. They proved themselves time and time again during these trying Covid times. All the teachers who taught my kids were very dedicated. They set very high standards for the children which required a lot of hard work, but it helps them build a great work ethic. If you are looking for your children to build a strong Islamic foundation along with high educational standards, Iqra is the school for you!
