Part of the reason we live in our neighbourhood is the public grade-school down the street. But when our first child was ready to start junior kindergarten, that school only offered half-days. So we enrolled our daughter at Westboro Academy. It had a great reputation, and we had friends whose children were thriving there. Our intention, however, was to move to our local public school for grade one. Fast forward eight years, and we now have three children at Westboro. Like our friends' children, ours are thriving at the school. They are enthusiastically learning about math, science, social studies, and the arts, all in a bilingual environment. But they are also learning how to be a supportive friend, a reliable neighbour, a responsible citizen, in short, a good person. And they are incredibly happy in the process. We have friends who, for various reasons over the years, have taken their children out of Westboro. Most have promptly returned; those that have not, because they cannot, miss the school terribly. Hearing about their experiences has made us appreciate what we have in Westboro all the more. It truly is a great school.

My child has attended Westboro Academy for over a year now. We feel relieved to know that our child will be attending another school next year. Westboro Academy is plagued with severe disorganization – they cannot even send out a simple communication email to advise parents of activities without having to recall and send out an email on the same subject at least twice. I have seen first hand that some of the teachers at the school show favoritism or are simply far too out of date, and will do a great job at teaching your children how school rules only apply to certain children and not to others. In addition, the way they evaluate the academics in the school is extremely subjective, so there’s really no way for you to know the true quality of the education that they will receive. My child has learned very little at the school; however, I hear about TV time at school a lot! My child learned more in a few months at her amazing daycare then she did in a full year at Westboro Academy. The school will also soon be moving very far from their current location and into the suburbs of Ottawa and a very large percentage of the population has decided not to follow them; therefore the school may not even exist in a few years from now due to poor enrolment levels.

Great school. We are very happy with it. Even though we are an anglophone family, our child quickly became fluent in French thanks to Westboro. We really like the fact that it is a small school with dedicated teachers and staff. We wish it went beyond Grade 8!
