A wonderful "English" elementary school with an extremely immersive French-Language program starting early from Kindergarten. My children identify as "Francophones" whose mother-tongue is English (yes, classify that, Gouvernement du Quebec). My 8-year-old and 6-year-old both are literate in both English and French, as a direct result of having had the privilege of attending Birchwood school. I do not know French well enough to have taught them what they learned there, at home. Every parent on my street without exception would have their child attend Birchwood, if only the law would allow, unfortunately, some children are denied because of the political environment which is sad. It is indeed a privilege to attend Birchwood and the quantifiable results are readily-apparent via the learnings acquired by my children having attended there. This school features young, enthusiastic, energetic teachers; looking to make a mark in their profession; they are the lifeblood of Birchwood Elementary School and stand out by their dedication. Even having the option of choice, Birchwood would have been my first choice for my children without question due it's "Francais Plus" immersive French program and the average young age of teaching staff. Doubtless, the quality of education offered at Birchwood rivals what could be paid for in a private school institution elsewhere. The clean, modern-designed and well-maintained school building and the lovely school grounds surrounded by a pure natural wooded area add to the appeal. I must also mention Birchwood Daycare for lunch and after-school programs; it is simply the most trustworthy, reliable and professional service any parent could ever fantasize about for their child and it was a pleasure to deal with the staff there. I give this entire institution the highest possible rating. An EXCELLENT school.
