Disappointing Experience with Blyth Academy: Unjust Expulsion and Lack of Suppor

Our experience with Blyth Academy was deeply disappointing. After sending our daughter from London to Canada to complete her 12th grade, we trusted the school to provide a supportive and safe environment. Unfortunately, within less than two weeks, she was expelled without proper communication or support. The reason for expulsion—alleged possession of drugs—was handled poorly, with no clear evidence presented, no police report filed, and no opportunity for our daughter to address the situation before such a drastic decision was made. Adding to our concerns, the school assigned other students to follow and spy on her outside the campus, increasing her sense of isolation and anxiety. The lack of diversity at the Lawrence Park campus also made her feel alienated. It was evident that the school was more focused on financial interests than on our daughter’s well-being.

My son was not reaching his full potential at public high school. It was too big and he didn't feel connected or motivated. When he joined Blyth Lawrence Park things improved steadily for a number of reasons. The classes are smaller with typically between 6 and 10 students which means that teachers had more time to spend helping students and were able to focus on individual needs. With the small classes the teachers get to know each student individually and forge a good relationship, this is something that never happened in the public system. The standards of the teachers are very high both in terms of personal character and qualifications, they are highly motivated and passionate about teaching. They really make a difference. Our son continues to thrive both academically and socially. He is enjoying school for the first time since grade school. He continuously receives good guidance counselling which has opened his mind to different options of study which he had never considered before. and this is helping him decide what he would like to study at university. We are happy with our decision to send our son to Blyth for grades 11 and 12 and are glad to see him enjoying school and learning again.

It is with a great deal of joy and pride to know that my son will be graduating from Blyth Academy after 4 years of support and guidance both academically and socially. He has the tools to move forward with confidence and the ability to navigate what lies ahead for him thanks to our decision to educate our son at Blyth. It has been a tremendous growing experience for all of us. Thank-you to all the enthusiastic and caring teaching and support staff at Blyth. Small class sizes, big hearts!

Excellent teachers, small class sizes. My son was eager to get to school each day and put real effort into his studies.

The Blyth Academy at Lawrence Park and its staff were a blessing to our 16 year old (now 18) and to our family. Our son was lost in his previous high school with the traditional class sizes of 32+ and over 2,500 total students. While academically intelligent, he was neglected by his previous teachers due to his learning style which caused his confidence to fade to a point that completing high school was in question. The smaller class sizes and smaller ratio of teacher to student is instrumental in teaching, regardless of the level or curriculum. This, coupled with the support at Blyth Academy Lawrence Park from Mr. Coles, Ms. Pucknell and the entire staff were invaluable. Our son has now graduated, has been accepted into several university and college programs and the confidence gained from his experience by attending Blyth has increased tenfold for his future endeavours. There is a true difference from a paid vs. public education. It is a shame in society that we don't think twice about spending our money on cars or vacations, but over think and question the value of spending it on high school education for our kids.
