Haywood at Trust Hair Salon put me through the most traumatic hair experience I have ever dealt with. A year and a half after my appointment with him, my hair is still a long, long, long way from recovery -- though at least the chemical burns on my forehead didn't scar!
On the night of November 18, 2015 I had an appointment with Haywood to have my roots done. For a year I had been bleaching my hair to a silvery-white colour at a salon in London and my hair was in great shape thanks to a talented stylist. I flew into LA to attend the American Music Awards and needed to make a last-minute appointment to have my roots taken care of. I thought this salon would be perfect, thanks to its good reviews. The place turned out to be a nightmare.
I asked Haywood to please bleach my roots and to add a nice lilac colour to my hair. Haywood told me that whomever had been bleaching my roots was doing them wrong -- that rather than needing to bleach my roots for one long session, they needed to be bleached twice but for a shorter period. He raked the bleach roughly through my roots.
I didn't know until later that the rough, double-bleaching treatment would break off about 30% of my hair. Yes, I lost a huge portion of my hair that I've been growing out for the last 17 months. The biggest problem that night was that Haywood somehow turned my hair GREEN. My silver-white hair was a sickly bright shade of green. He couldn't explain how he'd done it. To this day I have NO CLUE what he could have done to turn my white hair GREEN. He didn't put any dye in it, so what happened?
My appointment ran for over six hours. Haywood put chemical after chemical in my hair to try to correct the colour. He put a colour stripper in it. I had no idea at the time how much further damage that would cause to my hair. Haywood pulled out a cardboard colour wheel to try to figure out which colour would combat the green. Even I knew that was obviously a pink colour -- how could I know that and my hair stylist didn't?
We spent hours dyeing my hair various shades of pink to try to get the green out. Finally, around 2am, after many many tears, I said I was just going to go. Leave it as is. It's not going to get any better.
The hair around my hairline and along my scalp had broken off. My scalp felt raw. I had chemical burns on my face. My hair colour was a patchy mix of blonde, pink and green. It was an absolute mess. To make it worse, Haywood made me pay for the products he used on my hair -- I paid $100 to have my hair ruined and skin burned!
I called the next to day and asked to speak to a manager so that I could complain. It turned out Haywood IS the manager. He offered NO compensation, no refund, not even an apology. I hung up the phone in tears.
I have uploaded photos to Yelp as evidence for everything I'm saying, as well as a progress photo as my hair had to grow out from all of the breakage. If you care about your hair, do not go to Haywood. Do not let him anywhere near your hair. He will ruin it for years to come. I will never, ever forgive Haywood or Trust Salon for what they put me through. A year and a half later and my hair still isn't even close to being the same.
