Today i went to get my hair washed, trimmed and flat iron. I was so nervous.First of all because my hair was a mess. I'm black with 4c texture hair. I didn't think the hair dresser would be able to do my hair. My hair stylist was Ruth. She made me feel very comfortable. I like how i asked her a question and even though she didn't know the answer she called over her instructor to get the answer. The instructor ( didn't get her name) very beautiful with blonde short hair was also very nice and professional. She walked around checking on the students work and giving feed back. I enjoyed my experience. It was very affordable. Only $26 and Ruth did a great job. Will be back.

I've been to Beau Monde & Pagans & rate this location higher because I've left there with great haircuts every time. And what's not to love about those hohoursTook a big chance getting it cut in a Pixie cut, at their suggestion & always get complements. Another big plus is not having to drive downtown to park. Excellent teachers to monitor & show how to do the bugaboos like cowlicks, curly sometimes frizzy hair. Nice sideburns too.

I would like nothing more than to give this salon another chance to redeem the first impression I had after getting a gel manicure here, but I will admit I'm rather hesitant. In fact, much of my review will likely echo what has already been touched on in some of the others here. Pros: the students are enthusiastic and conversational. You can get a quality salon service done for a fraction of the price you would pay at any professional salon. The location is kept incredibly clean, inviting, and stylish. Cons: However willing and eager to learn the students appear to be, there is something to be said about the licensed instructors. They hang back in the shadows very seldom offering any hints of knowledge or the supervision that's expected in their role. I cannot speak for all the instructors, of course, but this is one of the first impressions I got in my hours of time spent here. From specific actions I observed, whether standing around and talking to other instructors, or doing things like yawning, grimacing/frowning, or reading magazines under the pretense you're actually doing your job, clients notice things like this in a professional setting. You're being paid to supervise and teach cosmetology outside of the standard classroom setting by servicing actual PAYING CLIENTS. I would probably suggest another profession if this is not something you're very passionate about, regardless of salary or long hours. The service is incredibly slow. By this, I mean it took LITERALLY over 2 hours to complete my gel manicure. 2 and a half to be exact. I understand the students are taking their time being careful and precise, but come on. We've all got schedules, and in my opinion, 3 hours spent in a salon for a manicure is 2 hours too long regardless of how pleasant these students may be. I'll likely give this place another chance, because who doesn't have an off-day once in awhile? Perhaps I just came in on one of "those days. " I do, however, have higher expectations for Phagan's than that of my first experience.

I'm really trying to like this salon/beauty school, because every experience I've had with Kaycee has been absolutely amazing and thorough, but the receptionists have time and time again told me my appointment was never set up or an appointment has to be cancelled. It's ridiculous. Set an appointment. Stick with it. Don't tell me last minute drama bullshit happened. I have a schedule too, guys.

I've been reading a lot of these reviews and I would like to give advice to all the people with low ratings. I graduated from this beauty school in 2013 and now a successful stylist renting a chair. I'm very happy with the education I got and it put me ahead of other entry-level stylists I began working with. All these girls, myself included, had to start somewhere. Do you think every doctor or surgeon started out saving and changing lives? Probably not. I can tell you right now that beauty school is tough. I'll do my best to help with most of the negative comments: POOR QUALITY SERVICES: Any student starting out in school isn't going to be very good, honestly. You can't compare them to the master colorists at a boutique salon downtown. They are learning the fundamentals of color/haircutting in a classroom, working on manakin heads and each other, cut them some slack. Believe me when I tell you they don't want to screw up your hair/nails/makeup. It's an art, and it takes years of trial and error to master it. Instructors are always there to double check the work before sending you out the door. The point of beauty school is to learn the fundamentals of cosmetology: chemistry, angles of haircutting, anatomy, etc. The real skill is learned in the real world. SERVICES THAT TAKE TOO LONG: Like I said above, the students don't want to mess up your hair. They are nervous and take their time, sometimes running back and forth to an instructor for tips. Sometimes it's not even the students fault that it took twice as long as it should have, you have to have instructors approval and signatures to send you out the door, and if they're pretty new, they need instructors to write their color formula or give haircut instructions. There's a system, people. And no, they aren't getting extra hours/credits for spending ample amounts of time on your hair. School hours are 9-5 and they're getting hours as long as they're clocked in, and only 1 credit per haircut. Bottom line, you get what you pay for. If you only want to pay $8 for a haircut, it might be an inch shorter than you want, and they will be slower than the girl who works at Supercuts. But you're helping the students learn how to be successful when they graduate. So be nice. 😊
