If I could give a negative star review for Sky Facial Plastic Surgery I would.
I was referred to Dr. Yoo by a medical professional I have been affiliated with for several years and have a very high level of respect for. My mother was interested in a procedure he provides so we scheduled an appointment for a consultation. I accompanied my elderly mother to this appointment as a support system and to also learn information. We were impressed with the clinic, staff we interacted with and decided to move forward with scheduling a procedure. In order to schedule an appointment “at a special price” we had to commit that day and place a $500 deposit to schedule the procedure. Excited and anxious, she placed the deposit.
Unfortunately my mother had to postpone the procedure due to a medically necessary surgery, versus an elective surgery. Furthermore, she was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer and we need to utilize her funds in what is going to be a very costly and extremely difficult, both physically and emotionally, treatment plan to save her life. She no longer is able to have an elective surgery due to the months of treatment she will be receiving.
I called Dr. Yoo’s office to explain the situation and respectfully request a refund of the $500 deposit as our primary focus and funds at this time were needed to address this life threatening diagnosis. I had to make three follow up phone calls before actually speaking to the “Assistant Manager” in their office.
The “Assistant Manager” stated although she was very sympathetic to our situation, they were unable to issue the $500 deposit as it was non-refundable deposit and they had already incurred costs behind the scenes on the coordination of her surgery that was scheduled several months out. Please note I have spoken to 5 of my colleagues in the medical field regarding this situation including the individual who referred me and they all laughed at the absurdity of such a statement and stance.
I have been a high level executive in the health care field for over twenty years and am very well versed in contracts, policies, and financial transactions related to medical treatment. I also am a firm believer in ethical business practices and “doing the right thing.” I wish that Dr. Yoo and his staff shared that same philosophy. Perhaps an educational course in Business Ethics would be helpful for Dr. Yoo and his staff. Moreover, that they would exhibit basic human compassion over their bottom line.
My mother did not just change her mind regarding treatment or have cold feet regarding the procedure. Her body is full of cancer cells that are impacting every facet of her well-being.
On one hand, it is a blessing in disguise, as I now know I would never want Dr. Yoo to lay a hand on my mother, more so place her life in his hands. This business that takes pride in being “family owned and operated” clearly does not have their patient’s best interest, health, or well-being in mind. This situation has only shown me how cold, callous, and self-serving this business is.
Shame on you and your practice, Dr. Yoo. The public deserves to know your inhumane and unethical business practices. The money is not the issue at this point. It is the principle of doing the right thing which you obviously don’t care about.
