"Yesterday marked 5th week post my upper/lower blepharoplasty and mid-face fat grafting by Dr. Kulak. I am 46 years old. I noticed sagginess and puffiness in my eyes starting to show few years go and no matter what cream or serum I used, the problems continued to worsen. I also noticed that the sagginess was getting asymmetric too. So, I started my search for a surgeon I could trust. I am a maxillofacial prosthodontist; I have many friends and colleagues that are head and neck surgeons, and I have seen my fair share of botched facial surgeries. I was terrified of getting any surgery done on my eyes but the puffiness and asymmetry got so bad that even make up wouldn’t cover it up. So, I knew it was time. I went to 6 different practices across Maryland, DC and Virginia during a 24 month period. I also had a virtual consult with an oculoplastic surgeon in California. I was on line researching weekly for a facial plastic or oculoplastic surgeon whose before and after photos were acceptable to me. I even considered flying to California; but every time I came back to Dr. Kulak. When I met my nurse at the pre-op unit, she asked who my surgeon was and I confirmed it was Dr. Kulak. She responded: “excellent choice”. That unsolicited compliment erased any doubts I have regarding this decision. My case took about 4.5 hours under general anesthesia. The procedure itself was not bad at all. I had very mild pain post op and I only took one pain pill. I had zero complications, no fever, no infection or abnormal swelling. I was bruised a bit but that didn’t bother me at all. I, however, struggled emotionally for couple of weeks after the surgery because I was swollen and didn’t look like myself. I even cried when I went back to my first week f/u app for suture removal. Dr. Kulak’s kind and caring bedside manner reminded me why I chose her as my surgeon after two years of research and contemplation.
She is double boarded and on top of that she focuses on few procedures involving the face. The dexterity and skillset necessary to perform surgical procedures on small delicate facial structures such as eyelids are much more demanding (in my opinion) than procedures like abdominoplasties and breast surgeries. Her numerous patient before and after photos are a testament to her skills and vast experience performing facial cosmetic procedures. The photos available on the website of her practice illustrate consistent successful patient outcomes; meaning, she is one amazing surgeon with superb skills. She is honest and upfront. She is respectful and humble. She doesn’t push for procedures one might not need; in fact she strongly advises against surgeries that could yield unpredictable results. Now 5 weeks post-surgery, my incision lines are barely visible. The puffiness in the lower eyelids are almost gone. The moderate asymmetry in my upper eyelids and nasal fats are gone. Dr. Kulak has turned the clock back by decades.
So, my advice to whoever reads this review is that … Do your research. Don’t let just anyone with a MD next to their name touch your eyes. Don’t pursue “get one – get one free” deals for a very sophisticated delicate cosmetic surgery such as blepharoplasty. The eyes don’t have much real estate to afford revisions. My research paid off and I ended up with an expert with impeccable credentials. Dr. Kulak THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. My friends will be coming to see you!!!Also, a big thank you to Darya, Dr. Kulak’s surgical coordinator for her patience. She worked with me and around my schedule and after a year of emailing and going back and forth, she got me to the finish line. I am extremely happy with the way I am healing; and although I don’t plan on going under the knife anytime soon, I know the super skilled surgeons at Naderi Center could provide the most sophisticated cosmetic surgeries I might need in the future. :)) Sincerely L.Abdolazadeh, DDS, MS, FACP”
