I was given Dr. Harake’s contact information from my Health Insurance company. I called to schedule an appointment for my daughter to have some moles removed that had been irritated and bleeding, I told the receptionist that I would get a referral from my primary Dr which would cover the services as I had verified the procedure coverage which my health care insurance. I set the appointment and was told there was a $100 consult fee that would go towards any procedures performed which was fine with me. The day before the appointment they called and moved our appointment from noon to 10:30 am, I live over an hour from the office and my daughter drove 2.5 hours from college to come to the appointment so it was a little inconvenient but we adjusted our schedules to make it work. We arrive early to the appointment and waited 45 minutes to see the Dr. The Dr then walks in, asked how we heard about him I told him our insurance company. He looked over my daughter moles for about 5 seconds and proceeds to tell me that he does not bill Insurance from his office only at the hospital, he felt these moles were cosmetic and that we would have to pay cash. I explained that the moles had bled and were irritated in the past which per our insurance would qualify for them to be removed and biopsied. He said “ well I am the Dr Sweetie, and I only accept cash” I am a professional woman who has worked in Healthcare for 25 years, including working for a dermatologist so I absolutely know that not to be true plus I had already verified with my insurance company that it was a covered procedure. So i explained all of this to him which he continued to say i only accept cash. I also said to him I explained all this to you staff on the phone prior to making the appointment, why would i pay you cash for something I know is covered by insurance. Needless to say after he demeaned me by saying “ well I am the Dr sweetie” I had to get up and leave the office. It was a complete waste of mine and my daughters time and a complete inconvenience with the amount we had to travel to see him. All they had to say over the phone when i called for the appointment was “we only accept cash or credit” or say “we don’t do in-house Insurance billing “ I would have said thank you anyway and moved on the the next physician on our list. Dr. Harake was extremely condescending and his staff is apparently uninformed of how his practice works. If you go make sure it’s just for Botox or Breast implants because apparently that’s all they care to do!!!!
