Halstrom Academy - Mission Viejo

Can’t rave enough about Halstrom. My son was struggling in local high school so we enrolled him here. The game changed and all grades went to A’s and B’s. The staff here actually care about your child - a novelty these days. The 1-1 tuition is what really sets this school apart from others. For the money it’s an absolute bargain. They work with your situation too where possible (scheduling).

I love this school. The one-on-one allows a teacher to truly appreciate who your child is. There are no clique PTA groups, no bullies, no major fundraising. Just your child and a teacher that guides your child through their education process, at your child’s pace. My son who does not have the best penmanship, and was always judged for it, is thriving! The teachers look beyond penmanship and look at the content. The math teacher, finds what he is doing right and expands on it! The English teacher reads one on one and supports my son to become a stronger reader and writer. The science teacher expands on the textbook and helps my son understand difficult concepts. There are more male teachers working with my son, which gives the message that education is important to males as well as females. The facility is clean, top notch, and the future direction of education. Personalized for any level. Great tracks for advanced learners. My son plays a demanding sport where he needs to travel frequently and train hard. I no longer have to deal with hours of homework. My son finishes school around 11:30, gets homework done, then trains in the evening. No stressful late homework nights. My son is no longer frustrated by dealing with School variables that distracted his education. He feels more confident and he is growing into an amazing person, thanks to the guidance of his teachers!

Everyone I have delt with at Halstrom is very knowledgeable and professional. The teachers my daughter has worked with have been great, the one on one is amazing! This kind of education isn't for ever child but it is a great option if your child isn't a mainstream learner! My daughter has loved her experience!

My eldest son had a very difficult time succeeding at the local High School. His ADHD made tracking and turning in homework almost impossible. Although he received an aide, and had sympathetic teachers, there was just no way for the public school system to deal with kids who had severe organizational issues. This resulted in years of fighting, pleading and begging my eldest son to keep up with the blizzard of work he was receiving and not able to organize and complete. He would receive an A or B on all of his tests, but then got a C, D or F for not turning in his homework on time. In many cases the work was completed but not taken out of his backpack. No amount of school visits or district help was able to fix this. Great intentions but no ability to execute a meaningful IEP. At Halstrom this issue has been mostly resolved. My son is able to advance quickly in math and science by demonstrating mastery, and the school works with us on completing and turning in homework. The one on one format is the key; F's in math disappeared and are now A's in pre calc. This week he scored the highest marks in the school on French. I would have sworn there was no way he would finish high school, but now he is thriving. There are still problems understanding how to complete assignments and track over due work, but the smaller setting, and the willingness of the staff to work with us is making the difference. Of course this all comes at a cost, but from my point of view I'd prefer to invest my sons college money now than watch helplessly as he struggled to get through High School. Definitely not for everyone, but for a kid that can't get the necessary attention required to succeed in the public system, I think this is a great solution. My youngest son is doing well in public school so I have no intentions of putting him in Halstrom. I look at Halstrom as the right solution for those that have tried every option in the public system but still can't get the help they need.

Halstrom has worked closely with us and our son to accommodate my his needs while challenging him intellectually. He enjoys the one on one attention, as well as the small group Robotics class he's taking this summer. Thank you!
