My daughter entered this school a little over three years ago at the age of 4. She was struggling in a special needs classroom with Anchorage school district after a year and a half and didn't seem to be learning anything. Her world was a mess. Her dad and I had just started the process of divorce. We didn't have any family nearby. Her teacher was AMAZING. She worked my daughter through so much and was very connected to what was going on in her life. My daughter went from learning nothing in a classroom geared for kids with special needs to being in a neuro-typical classroom and functioning beautifully. The children were encouraged to be kind and compassionate towards her, thanks to a lot of work from her teacher and the assistant in the classroom. This school is a close knit community. You don't get a robot voice and have to choose your extension when you call. A employee (who is also a student's mother) picks up the phone and helps you through what you need. The teachers have challenged my daughter, setting the expectations high, while encouraging her to reach for the stars even though she's a bit behind the curve. When there are social problems, the teachers are on top of it and help the kids work things out between themselves and appreciate the differences in each other. I have had several professionals in my daughter's life recommend this school to other parents because of the difference it has made for my daughter. I can't say enough about what a difference AMS made in our lives!

Focused on the whole child - creating independent thinkers and kind members of our community. This is hands-down the best pre-school in town and continues on to provide exceedingly positive and comprehensive elementary education. So much appreciation for the incredible teachers at AMS, who focus deeply on each child's needs and are amazing at communicating with the parents. AMS rocks!

My husband and I have two children at Anchorage Montessori School. We started with the preschool program and currently have one in kindergarten (extended day preschool) and one in lower elementary. We couldn't be more pleased with the quality of education our children are receiving. AMS has inspired a love of learning and we intend to stay on through upper elementary.
