Visit the school to get a feeling of it instead of visiting a website. You will know if it is the place for your child. It has been the place for my two children for the past 4 and 6 years.

Avoid this school at all costs. In the middle of our second year as a family at East Bay Waldorf. It was brought to our attention by another young girl in my sons 1st grade class that the teacher Ms Wishart, is sending my son to sit out in the rain... with no coat or winter wear (which we had provided him with full rain gear at the school), Soaking wet, for a time out ... because first grade teacher, lacked the appropriate skills to handle an ADHD child. This little girl cried to her father about the neglect and abuse. My son was forced to sit out there for a long periods of time and he was outside shivering. We had been wondering why our son would be in soaking wet clothes when we were picking him up from class. Very confusing because we provided full rain gear, rain boots as well as a change of clothes in his cubby. My son had been complaining that his teacher was making him sit out in the cold and would not allow him to have a jacket. This was also brought up in a parent teacher conference! She was also telling my son she doesn't like his hair in his eyes. Because she was constantly humiliating him in class, it gave him anxiety and scared him to the point where he felt like he needs to wear gel in his hair. The first grade teacher told him that he needed to cut his hair off because she did not like the way he flicked his hair, and if he didn't do so, he would be forced to wear girl barrettes in his hair again. Ms wishart also humiliated him in class by singling him out, forcing him him jump on 1 foot, while his classmates watched him. When he couldn't do so & he fell, she excluded him from the art classroom and sent him to go sweep the school hallway. We brought the attention to the lead administrator, Kelly Chappie. Who basically wanted to sweep the situation under the carpet. Stating we had false information, even though there has been complaints by multiple children & parents. My sons father became emotional and spoke his mind in front of the teacher and other parents. Asking her why she would do that. She never denied that she treated my son. She smirked telling my husband that our son bugged her and the noises he made bugged her. The results in my sons father questioning the teacher and informing other parents, Kelly emailed us the next day letting us know effective immediately, our children were disenrolled from East Bay Waldorf school, claiming their father was being abusive to the staff. However expecting us to still pay the outrageous monthly tuition. Our family has contacted the Richmond Police Department to press charges, and we were told there have been numerous reports of child abuse this year at EBWS. Thoroughly check your resources before even considering EBWS. The preschool, The class my youngest son was in, was operating with no licensing and operating illegally. They actually had two counts of fines by the state, just within this school year.

A wonderful school in too many ways to count.

Absolutely amazing in any way. I literally get teared up every time that I drop off my son at school. 2 weeks after summer break he was begging me to go back to school and could not understand why the school is closed. If you want a place that will nurture every aspect of your child, will cherish your child personality, rather than try to make it fit into a box, this is the place for you. In addition, this is the most diverse private school I have seen in the bay area, both among kids and faculty. The school is full of art, music and nature. I wish I could go back too!
