It seems to be a normal "private school" now but in the 1990s it was a group home of sorts for troubled kids. I spent a couple years there and the staff were very abusive. Being "restrained" or as we called it "getting slammed" is only supposed to happen if a child is a physical threat to themselves or others, but it was used constantly as a solution to any and every little annoyance. If you don't do your school work you get slammed. If you are caught awake after lights out you get slammed. Being slammed consist of a an adult tackling a student to the floor where they press their knee against your back or chest until another staff member comes to assist them in dragging you to a small building called "crisis". crisis consist of a living room sized area with a fer tiny cubicles built along one wall. and a small room with floor to ceiling carpet and a magnetic door on the other. (there are at least one of these carpeted rooms with magnetic doors in every building.) when you arrive in crisis the staff hand you off to two more staff who slam you against the carpeted wall or floor where they twist your arm, put it behind your back and pull it toward your neck while pressing their weight against your back to constrict your breathing. They take turns doing this for several minutes. after what felt like hours of torture. the student is made to sit silently in the blank little cubicle for no less than one hour sometimes as much as 14 hours. if you speak or look away from the wall you get slammed again. these are not isolated incidents. this was standard practice for all staff in the event of any minor inconvenience. if this is still a place for troubled children do not send your kids there. it is like something from a horror movie.
