Horribly disappointed. My daughter attended this school for 9 months in the infant program. After countless attempts to resolve numerous problems, we departed in a less than cordial farewell.
My daughter was 3.5 months when she started. We had numerous issues with lack of following instruction for use of diaper cream that resulted in awful reoccurring diaper rash all in the course of one day, failure to follow instructions for feeding bottles, inability to accurately complete daily reports, and failure to comply with state regulations with regard to monitors children while they sleep and isolated highly contagious children. The teachers seem over worked and the principal is not effective. I was provided reassurance time and time again that reports would be completed and diaper cream would be applied, but I continued to have noncompliance issues. The constantly called my daughter by the wrong name, and couldn't seem to remember her age (for and infant, months make a huge difference!).
The amount of fundraisers alone is overwhelming. Additionally, there seems to be a "potluck" every week that seems ridiculous for infants. They seem to know little to nothing about infant nutrition and feedings. We had issue with over feeding (not at all familiar with bottle feeding breast fed babies), and they give infants Light and Fir Yogurt (totally inappropriate for infants) and processed sugary foods without consent.
Specific issues that eventually pushed us to leave was an incident of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease that I learned about via a half-sheet notice tapped on the counter next to the sign in book. When I asked an administrator about the notice and how it was dealt with, I was put off and told that the infected child remained in the room with all of the other children for over an hour until they were picked up because the school was not equipped to isolate the child. Further, the principal was not at all concerned because she believed all of the children was have already been exposed. There was a complete lack of urgency to inform the parents and it was not until I brought up the issue that a formal notice was sent to parents.
Another incident when I completely lost my composure was when I was chased down by the principal to be instructed that my daughter could not attend school for the day. This occurred the day after my daughter was at school with excessive eye discharge due to allergies. The day prior, I had told the teachers that she had excessive eye discharge. That same day, I received a phone call telling me my daughter was fine, but had a lot of eye discharge. I even spoke to her health care provider to rule out contagious diseases. At no point did the school inform me of their concern. The following day, the principal chased my down to tell me my daughter was thought to be contagious and could not stay. Had they communicated their concern for a contagious disease the day prior, I could have made alternate arrangements or secured a clearance from the doctor. Instead, I was told that morning as I was on my way to work.
Merryhill was such a disappointment. Being a Sacramento native, the Merryhill name had always instilled confidence. I will never recommend this institution. Their priorities are fundraisers and potlucks first, children second.
They have a lot of promotional items that advertise development and curriculum, but the materials are in boxes under the cribs. The rooms is small and cramped for the number and children they try to accommodate.
