I went to this school in first and second grade. My first grade teacher, Mrs. Wagner, is a memory of inspiration to this day. My second grade teacher, Mrs. Goldman lacked compassion and tolerance. The principal at the time was a woman who I have blocked my memories of for reasons of a paddle and anger issue. My experience at this school was the foundation of my educational priorities and ethics. Because of Mrs. Wagner and the other teachers in my life, I have completed cosmetology school as an honors student as well as attended college for fine arts and am a member of the national collegiate honors society. Mrs. Wagner instilled a belief in me that I was capable and talented in both core curriculum and arts. I am now a successful tattooist and piercer who utilizes the deep rooted foundation of questing knowledge to better myself for my clients and give back to my community. For the kid who was in the principals office weekly, I sure have made something of myself. I am in gratitude for this school, it's staff, and the education I GOT to experience. Years 1986-1988.

The educators are great! Our son loves it. Without delay every two weeks we receive an envelope with his arts and crafts. I appreciate that the educators take pictures of the different activities the children are involved. Every week there is a new learning highlight. This year they improved the drop off/pickup process.

The school has both positive and negative aspects. For one, the pick up process is chaotic, mis-managed, and most important, lacking in security. Anyone can show up and take a child. Big negative. The teachers for the younger kids are caring, creative, and engaged. Breakfast is served with no napkins, utensils or place settings, so this is not a place that emphasizes manners. Hygiene is not top priority either...witness the multitude of old toys that creat clutter in the classrooms. Field trips are cheap and sometimes ordinary i.e., trip to the grocery store, but that's not a negative for the little ones nor for the parents. There are no PCs in the classrooms, which is incredible as PCs are so cheap and there is wonderful educational software for kids. This school has great potential and has gaps to address.

My 3 1/2 year old daughter has been in Lake Shore School since she was 15 months old. I'm overly cautious and super picky about who I leave me kids with, so I went to about 10 different day cares before I found this one. The staff there is great! They always have the children do learning activities and going on field trips, and they send daily report cards home along with all of their artwork and schoolwork that they do. Unfortunately, I have taken a job in Wheaton, so I will have to move at some point, but will stay in Chicago at least another 6 months and bare the commute so my daughter can stay there a bit longer. I recommend sending your child to this day care/preschool if you want you child to be in a caring, loving environment and who the director, Ms. Marsha, knows all of the kids names. Also, they don't let kids watch tv at all! that was a huge thing for me, because every day care I went to, kids were just watching tv and not doing stimulating activities.... PLUS, it's affordable. Definently check it out for yourself! I signed my daughter up the same day we toured it.
