I joined the Gladwyne Montessori community six years ago and have had all three of our sons attend. My boys wake up every day and literally bounce out of our car excited to get into their classrooms and begin their work. My sons love to learn and have never seen school work as a drag, but instead they are thrilled to get their hands on the materials, until they master it, and then move on to another appropriate "work". The entire environment is created by caring and thoughtful teachers to allow their students to succeed and work at their own level and pace. My sons attend Gladwyne Montessori because I know they will be met by teachers whose main goal is to understand their students' needs. I did not grow up on the Main Line, but I have met and volunteered with many hardworking moms (both inside and outside of the house) at GMS, who have become some of my closest friends. Due to the three year cycle, each student has their teacher for three years in a row. This not only allows the teacher/student relationship to be strong, but helps students better adjust to school each year. They have observed older students completing their work and are not only prepared to begin it themselves, but are so thrilled to do so. This is most helpful when starting kindergarten- Instead of being nervous or unsure of what is expected of them, they feel excited and comfortable in the environment. I cannot say enough good things about this school. I suggest taking a tour and see it for yourself!

My family has had children at GMS for the last 7 years. I truly beleive that this is the best place for children to learn and grow. They are expected to be as independent as their development allows and the environment is catered to their size and interests. Maria Montessori's ideas about children and their learning is most definitely embodied here. I could not reccommend it more highly. Sarah

This school boast serving children ages 2-12 but they only focus on ages 2-5. They have some great elementary teachers but dealing with the politics and the "gossip" over shadows what they can do. I considered the school because I was told about the director who was big on diversity but when I arrived diverse it was not. One parent described it as the country club only members. There was no sense of inclusion and it seemed that they lived in a world all their own. A friend recently took her child out and the child struggled with adapting to the lessons of "regular" school. For 20K, you expect so much more. I will use my money at some of the better schools in the area.

My children went to Gladwyne Montessori for 10 years each and it has been the best educational start we could have hoped for. They have developed a strong sense of self, great work habits, respectful interactions with adults and peers, and yes, a love of learning. Transitioning into the traditional classroom was not an issue and intellectually they were very well prepared. At the heart of the school are the Montessori teaching method at its best and the excellent teachers.

Gladwyne Montessori is by far and away the finest private school community along the main line in Philadelphia. The faculty, administration and Board all take their role in the community very seriously, and treat each child like family. My daughter could not be luckier to attend this school. Their knowledge about and commitment to the Montessori method is second to none.
