What a beautiful experience on Grandparents' Day. Every child is engaged and treated gently. Voices are low and peaceful. I wish every child could experience this type of learning environment. Everyone is part of the learning process, so inclusive. This is the kind of environment that fosters openness and growth on all levels: mind, body and spirit.

Our children have been in the Waldorf School of Pittsburgh since we moved to Pittsburgh 8 years ago. They have gone through morning garden, nursery, kindergarten, and are now in the grades. The children have thrived there and the educational system is one that easily supports the children through difficult times and easy times, teaches them how to be good friends and take care of other children, how to love learning, and how to express themselves in words, music, drawing, and story telling. Outdoor time is supported even when it's cold or rainy (and never replaced with TV), music and art are built into the curriculum, the children move frequently throughout the day and are encouraged to be creative, free thinkers. Throughout our time at the school, we have always felt that the school put our children first even when it required them to spend money, time, or social capital to do so. The teachers are very caring people. The school emphasizes beauty, calmness, and nature in its teaching and actions, and encourages the children to value all of those things. We are very happy at the school and would recommend it to anyone.

My daughter has attended Waldorf since nursery school. At first I had doubts about their philosophy but I was quickly convinced by their use of looping (my daughter has had the same excellent teacher from first through fifth grades), truly interactive education, and teaching techniques that emphasize understanding rather than rote learning. Their emphasis on socialization in the early grades also helps character development even at an early age. I wish my elementary school had been half as good. Waldorf is expanding into an intermediate school which is a great relief as I don't think she would get as good an education at any other school.

Top notch staff with plenty of emphasis on a truly well rounded education.
