This is a fine school. My son is doing much better and has nice friends. His grades are improving and he is respectful and kind. Some of these reviews do not seem authentic nor are the authors able to spell.

It's a peaceful and beautiful place to visit.

Terrible school if you're a boarding student. You are isolated and not treated as a human being. Don't even try to send your kid here if they have mental health issues, because it will save their life.

My daughter has attended San Marcos for the past 3 years as a boarding student and is currently a senior. She has had a great experience. The teachers and staff are wonderful and are committed to helping your child succeed. Her grades went from a D average to straight A's. The rules are strict but not overly so, nothing we did not ask of her at our own home. We could not be more pleased and she has thanked us multiple times for sending her there.

I attended 2 years at San Marcos Academy and the first year i attended was a rough year but ended well but i must say the school, it felt like a prison. The inside of the dorms looked like closed cells that someone would see on TV. Dorm staff treated me with complete disrespect (except one witch will go without name). Instead of a so-called College prep books were outdated until recently the academy has switched to an online version of textbooks witch are still hard to access and to a point faulty. Teachers and staff show complete disrespect when it comes to the student body and showing individuality. When it came to students with disabilities they refused reasonable accommodations, which made a huge detriment to their education. Teachers here also had poor communication when it came to student problems, if a student were to email a teacher it could take multiple days to get a helpful reply for the students work.  Teachers would openly gossip about other students and staff in the classroom, bringing other students involved. Other issues that SMA had was the IT department, to the take of repairing a students laptop and not giving them a ‘loaner’. They would leave students without a laptop to get classwork done for any varying amounts of time, even going as long as two months without a laptop, or access to their work from home. As a student i knew and overheard about all the drug problems occurring at SMA. This year it was overwhelming and also lead to the campus being heavily searched frequently by police and staff. Students were mistreated as far as their disciplinary system worked. The Disciplinary system would either work to hard on a student that didn’t need to be disciplined or not discipline a student for something outrageous and that needed to be disciplined. They also told the students dealing with bullying and other social problems that they were lying. The on-site mental guidance councilor was rarely on campus during the 2015-2016 school year, which can be detrimental to a student who needs a ear to vent to. Over all SMA was a horrible experience and made many peoples lives miserable for many different reasons, I would never send my child here in the future, and highly suggest, if you love your child, you look at other schools instead.
