If you're going for a private school, Reid School is the best. Wonderful place with a curriculum that is customized amazingly well to the abilities of each student. Teachers ensure a supportive, bully-free environment among students. Many opportunities for learning classics and the arts. Teachers are well-trained. Reading is emphasized. There is sometimes a heavy load of homework (mostly for middle school students), but that prepares students to work hard and have a sense of responsibility. We have been thankful for Reid!

The school has a pretty good reputation for academics - though they really load the students down at times. Don't send your child there if they don't like writing poetry. They spend 4 months writing every type of poetry - limericks to Shakespearean sonnets - every night no matter which grade they are in. The teachers are decent, but Dr. Reid - the director/principle - herself is a very rigid, inflexible person. If a child is an out of the box kid, he/she will struggle with her. She does not connect with the children and is not interested in getting to know them or help them when they are having problems. When a parent tries to help her understand the child in question she accuses them of not teaching the child to take responsibility for his/her actions instead of working with them to find ways to overcome a problem. The vast majority of the children are all terrified of her and feel she does not listen to their side of a story and is very unfair to them. (Yes, I do know this because I spent many hours volunteering at the school and heard the children talk.) My son witnessed a girl in his class trip on a step and knock over a teacher and the girl was suspended over it because the teacher thought she had done on purpose. I was in the office at the time she was suspended and Dr. Reid wouldn't even listen to the poor kid. She just told the girl she was lying. If your child is a boy he will have an even harder time with Dr. Reid unless he is quiet and docile. If a boy acts like a typical boy - loud, rambunctious and liking to wrestle around, he will be branded as a bully. My boy really hated it there by the end of the year and I regret sending him there. I spent $10,000 + fees, fees and more fees just to have my son learn to hate school and to be branded as a bully by Dr. Reid.

Reid School is a fantastic school. They truly focus on learning and education. They have small class sizes and professional teachers whom have not only received degrees but are required to go through and learn the Reid Schools curriculum who Ms. Dr. Ethna Reid has created. Dr. Reid has devoted her life to helping children learn. She has written many books and also has traveled the world teaching other teachers how to teach children. I attended Reid school and so have my siblings. I would recommend this private school to anyone, whether their child has learning disabilities, or are at levels much higher than their peers. This school does require children to study and do homework. If you are a parent that does not want to help your child, or assist them with homework because you think everything should be done at school then I wouldn’t recommend you attend this school. I am very grateful to Ms. Dr. Reid and the school staff for pushing me to learn. At times it was very hard, and it seemed like I didn’t get to play as much as my friends who attended other schools, but in the end I learned a better set of skills to help me in my adult life. I have also made lifelong friends and can’t wait to register my future children.

It's everything a parent wants for their child to grow academically, and it exceeds what your child needs to meet the social challenges of growing up in our world today.
