OCS provides child-centered education in a caring environment. My daughter thrives in Teacher Becky's class; learning at her level about science, nature, concern for her community and environment and more. We are so grateful to have found a place where she can explore and build her love of learning.

I don't know how to express how upsetting our experience was applying for this school. Our son, who was in a kindergarten class at Serendipity (another private school in the area that is unfortunately closing), is a happy well-liked child who would have had no problem advancing to the first grade if his school were not closing. We heard great things about Olympia Community School, they told us great things. They used a lot of great catchphrases, like "meeting the child where they are at", and invited us to participate in "social visits" to make sure the school was a good fit for us. The director told us she would hold a spot for us. What we weren't told was that during these "social visits" the teacher would be evaluating our son to see if he was a good fit for her. We were not told what the parameters of this evaluation included, nor were we asked any questions by his prospective teacher. After wasting a month of our time and allowing our kid to fall in love with what we understood would be his new school, we received an email from the director that they felt they had "turned over every stone", the teacher felt the "fact" that he had emotional and academic needs that wouldn't be supported there made it impossible for him to be accepted to their school. Again, this teacher never spoke to us about him once. We still remain uninformed about what these magical tests were to evaluate him or what exactly his supposed additional needs are but are left to conclude that though this school may pretend to espouse progressive values, this is really just elitism rolled in granola.
