As an alumnus of Five Acre School I want to let the community know how great my experience was; the teachers I had were excellent. I got along with them and they taught in a way that I could understand; showing me different ways to use the tools I had access to. I enjoyed how much of our curriculum involved the outdoors. The location of the school allows for fun hikes and bike rides. The middle school was given lots of freedom which allowed for fun projects such as building a greenhouse and growing a garden. I feel that these attributes really improved my experience and make Five Acre School unique. I will miss it. -Cole Walsh

My two children have been a part of Five Acre School for over 4 years now. They are flourishing academically because they love learning. Every week they go on hikes throughout the Dungeness Wild Life refuge nextdoor and study nature. In music class they sing, dance, paint, and learn to play Marimbas. The teachers of the school are warm, nurturing, certified and highly professional. They focus on a child-centered curriculum. Thanks to the age blended classrooms, my kids learn at their own pace which meets their emotional needs while encouraging their curiosity. Children throughout the school respect each other and are never mean or bullied. In the rare event of a discipline issue the school's Director, a certified therapist, may have an emotion coaching discussion about the issue on a cozy bench in the office. There is no time out, the students are never told they're bad, there is only calm communication between students, staff and parents. As parents we are in constant communication with the staff and meet up to receive frequent detailed assessments of our children's progress without meaningless letter grades or standardized tests. As a community of parents we are all involved with every school function and have the power to help the school grow. It is an absolutely wonderful school and we are lucky to be a part of it.

My daughter is in 5th grade and my son is in 3rd. We are in our fourth year. This is truly the school you wish you could have gone to as a child. Pay no attention to the one negative post from "sentient gaming". At Five Acre, every child develops a love for learning, a desire to follow their creativity and imagination, and how to work together as a community. By the time they reach the Explorer Class, 4-6 grades, they are invested in their own educational careers. Those that enter in the higher grades quickly adapt. All the children are given the space to be themselves, to learn about who they are and how their strengths can benefit the community. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FIVE ACRE SCHOOL to anyone, either new to the area or life long residents of Sequim or Port Angeles. If you're saying you cannot afford private school, ask yourself this: can my child afford to be unprepared for the future? There is financial assistance and we are awaiting our non-profit status from the federal government. This will allow us to bring in grant money to further the tuition assistance program. The truth is, our public school system is broken and is forced to teach to the lowest common denominator. The greatest gift we can give our children is unconditional love, and a great education. Five Acre fulfills that gift! Thank you to all of the staff for making Five Acre such an amazing and fantastic school for all of our beloved children!
