With her severe dyslexia and some anxiety, my daughter’s local public school just wasn’t working for her. The teachers at Walbridge are specifically trained to help kids with a variety of learning disabilities, and the flexibility in instruction, classroom set up, and scheduling have helped my child enormously. Even smaller differences from her other school--such as a ten-minute recess for every hour of instruction—have made it easier for her learn. The teachers and staff have continually made adjustments and accommodations to give her the best possible educational experience, and she has made tremendous progress. We are grateful to all of the Walbridge staff not only for their teaching skills, but the compassion they show for all their students.

This little gem of a school helped return my child's confidence and provided the academic foundation that was missed because of learning issues that were not acknowledged or addressed in the public school or another well-known Madison progressive school. The teachers really work to understand and meet each child's learning needs, and because they are a private independent school, they are free to focus on unique learning styles and mastery for each child, rather than age, grades or other standardized measures of achievement. The whole school provides a safe, supportive learning environment where my child made many friends.

My first statement to people when they ask me about Walbridge School is that I wish we would have known about them years earlier. Within a few weeks, the staff had developed a plan to teach my kids in the way they needed to be taught so they could learn. And, as an added bonus, going to school became something that they looked forward to.
