Kenya/Tanzania, November, 2022

Our trip to Kenya/Tanzania in November/December of 2022 was our third trip that the Africa Travel Center and "Africa" Karen Cockburn had arranged and quarterbacked for us. The 17 day itinerary that "Africa" Karen put together was everything we had hoped for and more. When you start with Safari in the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Olduvai Gorge, and the Masai Mara and then stay at the magnificent Serena Lodges in Ngorongoro, Masai Mara, and Lake Victoria; it is probably going to be the most wonderful experience you have ever had as a world traveler; and it was for us. Things can change fast in the world of Africa travel and "Africa" Karen was on top of everything. For us, there were changing rules on Covid tests, yellow fever vaccinations, VISA requirements, and then a canceled flight out of London to Nairobi as well as lost luggage by British Airways. "Africa" Karen was on top of all of it and stayed in text contact with us the whole time. Absolutely a great Africa travel agent!

To celebrate my daughters college graduation in 2021, The Africa Travel Centre helped us plan a fabulous trip to southern Africa. Everything about the trip was amazing. Abbey and I started in Kruger National Park where we met Vusi - the nicest, most knowledgable and fun guide in South Africa. In Zambia, we stayed at the Chundukwa River Lodge - Gail took great care of us with wonderful home cooked meals, special treats and a shopping excursion in Livingston. Then off to Botswana - which is wild and fabulous! All accommodations, guides and experiences were special - we made friends, had great food and warm cozy beds at every stop. Oh, and we saw a LOT of amazing wildlife! Abbey and I can't wait to go again!

From our first ‘trip of a lifetime’ to Tanzania to repeat visits, Africa has found its way into our brains and souls- while every country we’ve visited is unique in terms of wildlife and landscape, the one constant is the people we meet- warm and welcoming. Africa Travel Centre is the big reason our visits have been so memorable- every guide/driver we’ve had has been personable and quickly adapts to our (dry) sense of humor. Karen is a master at arranging a variety of accommodation- from luxury tents to riverside ‘cabins’ to boutique hotels in cities-we love the variety. And the fact that she actually listens (well, reads) to your wishes about what you want to see and is flexible about rearranging and re-rearranging itineraries when you want to add something (and because she’s traveled extensively in Africa, will tell you if something is worth the extra time/$). Our last trip to Uganda in November was another memorable and exciting trip- from safari, to chimpanzees, to the mountain gorilla trek (awesome!) to white water rafting the Nile, it was custom made for us to include the wildlife we wanted to see, the adventures we wanted to experience, and the places we wanted to visit. Our first ‘once in a lifetime’ trip will, this coming October, become our ‘sixth in a lifetime trip’ when we venture to Madagascar. Looking forward to another memorable trip thanks to Africa Travel Centre!

This was my third trip to Africa but my first (and not my last) with Africa Travel Centre. Karen did an amazing job putting the trip together and it showed. All of the lodges and camps we stayed at were top notch with each one having it's own distinct character. Every day there was something magical that we were able to see or experience. One evening we had our "sundowners" while we were overlooking Olduvai (the Cradle of Mankind) and watching the sun set. It was an emotional experience that I will never forget. Another day we went to a Masai Village. The son of the chief of this village met us a few miles away and we walked to the village. On the way we learned about spear throwing (some of us even gave it a try), plants, Masai life, etc. When we got there we were greeted by the villagers with dancing and songs which we participated in. I didn't learn until months later that because we walked to and from the village with the Chief's son we were treated much more genuinely than we would have been if we had pulled up in our safari vehicle. The safari drives in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater were spectacular. I loved all the babies. I think my favorite place was Mahale where we got to see and learn all about the chimpanzees. Karen knows and loves Africa and I look forward to having her plan my next adventure there.

Karen and Natalie just arranged the trip of a lifetime for me and my husband. They're knowledgable and flexible. They took the time to understand our priorities, and they helped us make choices based on our budget and timeline. They honestly communicated about what was possible, and created an itinerary exactly crafted to our needs and goals. The trip itself came off flawlessly: every accommodation was incredible, every transfer was smooth, and our guides were AMAZING. We knew we'd enjoy the safaris, hikes, and wine tasting--and we did, even beyond our high expectations. The human element was something we didn't know to anticipate: how much the people we met and spent time with added to our incredible experience. So appreciate our life-changing journey to this amazing continent.

Russ & I were so fortunate to be referred to Karen Cockburn at Africa Travel Centre when we headed to South Africa in February 2020. Our trip was primarily with Habitat for Humanity, to build a home in Lesotho. After that week, we wanted to go to Cape Town for the first time & live it up...and thanks to Africa Travel Centre, live it up we did!. Africa Travel Centre had about 2 weeks lead time to help us, and in that short time they were able to arrange 2 full days with a private tour guide. The first day was spent enjoying private wine tasting at 3 different wineries, and a gourmet lunch. The second day we booked a sea kayaking excursion hoping to kayak with penguins. In addition to a fun & exciting sea kayaking experience, we had lunch in Simons Town, enjoyed the Cape of Good Hope & a beautiful drive back to our hotel, allowing us to see so much more of Cape Town than we would have on our own. We feel so fortunate with our experience, and would recommend Africa Travel Centre to anyone traveling to Africa. Karen is professional, knowledgeable and well connected.
