I had the pleasure of training at Island Top Team for the week. lTT is an absolute gem for British Columbia. There is zero gimmick. A clear and precise system that develops excellent grapplers by focusing on concepts not moves. Rob has a brilliant Jiu Jitsu acumen and this is displayed by his students technical prowess. Rob and Rory van Vliet (RVVBJJ) were both extremely generous with their knowledge and everyone was very warm and welcoming.

I've never really done a martial art before and I had no idea what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was before trying it out. I came looking for a self defence class and now I've joined this weird club of sweaty athletes where we roll around on the ground trying to get control of each other's limbs without getting choked. So far I'm having a great time! It's a safe-feeling environment with good padding and a springy floor (so getting tripped is fine, doesn't hurt to fall down). If you want to try a very hands-on learning style where you can see how someone half your size can stuff your torso into your own armpit and slowly immobilise you without hitting you or hurting you, I'd highly recommend it.

Love Rob and Love his academy. Dedicated, devoted, perfectionist with grace. He welcomed me into his facility with no strings attached as a visiting student. He is 100% committed to his academy and students. Selfless, professional, brilliant! He also makes great instructional videos!. His students are very accomplished as well. I learned a LOT and can't recommend island top team enough! Top Shelf!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU ROB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My experience at ITT was extremely positive. Detailed technical explanations, friendly people, and clean mats are just some of the things you can expect from the great community at ITT. If you're on the island, or just stopping by, do your Jiu Jitsu a favour and stop in!

An excellent community of dedicated martial artists. From my brief time on the island, it seems obvious that if you want to learn jiu jitsu this is the place to do it. Prof Rob was friendly and welcoming. He didn't even charge me a drop in fee! He was also extremely fast at replying to my emails. If you are a martial artist on the island, this is the place to be.
