Sensei Ryan teaches a practical form of martial arts that honours tradition whilst adapting to the modern world. I began training as a total beginner, and thanks to Ryan’s teaching methods, have advanced rapidly while still feeling comfortable learning at my own pace. The blended skill level setting creates opportunities for students to learn from each other in a safe, inclusive setting. I highly recommend Ryan”s program.

I thoroughly enjoy every class I take at Willow Tree. Sensei Ryan is a patient and methodical instructor, and I find the structure of his class is highly conducive to learning. I started as a complete beginner to martial arts, and by working seamlessly with students of varying levels of experience my knowledge base and skill set have greatly expanded. Aiki jujitsu is a fantastic and beautiful art which is steeped in tradition; the class deeply respects this legacy while also working on modern situations and strategies. I highly recommend Willow Tree Martial Arts to anyone who wants to get fit, have fun, and learn practical self-defence skills.

I highly recommend Willowtree Martial Arts’ Protect Yourself Self Defence Seminar for Women. I have taken this seminar on three occasions. The instructors are very knowledgeable and always bring new information to the group while reinforcing previously taught techniques. It was clear that the instructors were very committed to helping women stay safe within their communities. Each session was fun, informative and very empowering.
