Classes are flexible Monday to Thursday. You pay for how many you want a week and can go any of the days. Welcoming environment. Instructors are patience but firm. They make the lessons fun. They always review safety information before each skill change. Great location for beginners and experienced people.

PARENTS WITH YOUNG KIDS BEWARE! Traumatizing experience for my 4.5 year old daughter. Go to Kaizen instead! Completely shocked during the first TWO MINUTES of her first judo class (promoted highly as the ages 4 to 6 beginner's class to instill fun and learning alongside discipline blah blah). Zero organization, cluster f of kids of various ages thrown on the mats, given no guidance whatsoever and be told to start running laps. Daughter is initially having a blast then is aggressively and without warning grabbed by the neck of her judo robe (gui), bodily dragged several feet and sternly reprimanded SIMPLY BECAUSE SHE WANDERED A FEW FEET OFF OF THE YELLOW MAT by some black belt sensei who clearly doesn't care of the ripple effect of these actions. How does this demonstrate a fun, safe learning environment for a child? Should a 4 year old even participate in something like this or perhaps should reality check in and $$ not be the deciding factor here? Should your senseis know how to interact with children of this age (like how teachers have ECEs to support them)? Why are you accepting inquiries for new kids halfway through the season if you clearly don't have a system in place to facilitate them (see $$ note above). No information provided up front. Regret not asking these questions . I spent 10+ years at Asahi as a child from age 5 and have nothing but positive memories. I know I can attribute some of the foundation of discipline I have now to my experiences there. Now this is something my daughter will never be able to experience, because it's ruined. I have no doubt that there are still positive experiences there, but here is an example of one that isn't.

Horrible! Rude instructors! (Except Mr. Irving)

Flexible class schedules and patient instructors provide a good introduction to the sport in a welcoming environment that both challenges kids to step outside of this comfort zones and recognizes that not everyone will be at the same level. The community atmosphere that surrounds the club has led to us sticking with this beyond the initial "try something new" that we'd intended on signing our girls up for.
