Eleven years ago, my parents looked for a martial arts school that would teach me how defend myself, but also would instill in my brother and I the same morals and strength of character they focused on at home. They did their research and found this school. The Black Belts and Instructors are dedicated to developing the best in each student and themselves. Through thoughtfully designed movements and techniques, I have had countless challenging workouts that have improved my flexibility, strength, and endurance. Besides the physical aspect, I have gained tools that have helped me achieve my goals within and outside the school. From communication skills to self confidence, I feel more capable in my daily life. This is not your average martial arts school. You earn your way to becoming a skilled martial artist and are not given belts for simply showing up. If you're interested in teaching your kids to be honest, kind, and courageous, you've found the right place. If you're interested in testing your physical and mental capabilities, you've definitely found the right place.

My wife and I were keen to find a physical activity for our not very sporty boys, aged 6 and 8. We actually bumped into and got talking to one of the instructors in Alamo Plaza who suggested we come in for an introductory lesson. That was over a year ago. My boys and I all attend and Kung Fu has become part of our family routine and something that all three of us really enjoy doing together. The instruction is of high quality. All of the instructors are knowledgeable, friendly and dedicated. I would note that the system truly tests you at each level and does not freely hand out belt. Each time you earn a belt (or stripe on your belt) you feel a real sense of achievement. As a result, the higher ranking belts are all accomplished and skilled martial artists. The school and system teaches respect and discipline and it is great to watch my kids grow and learn physical and mental skills. It is also wonderful to observe the older, more experienced kids in the system teach and take on responsibility. They are a real credit to the school and system. There is also a strong community of adults who take classes and there is a good camaraderie amongst all of us. Further, as you progress you will get a chance to compete in forms, kata, self-defense techniques, weapons and sparring - so, there is a lot to learn and great variety in what you, as a student, can get involved in. Highly recommended!!

As a young teen, I wanted to learn how to defend myself and so I asked my parents to help me find a school. My parents immediately suggested East West because my brothers had studied there prior to moving away for college and they loved it. I started and didn't realize how much I'd like it. East West provides an environment where I can learn how to defend myself and grow as an individual. Each time I attend a class I always learn something new and get a good workout in. From the amazing instruction and guidance to the wonderful friends I've made there, East West accomplishes just that.

I can't say enough about this school. I booked my twin boys birthday party here (found it online) and it was by far the best party we've ever been to. Ryan was easy to work with, accommodating, and patient (which can be challenging with 16 six year olds). The kids (and parents) were blown away with the demonstrations and loved the quick lesson and obstacle course. They even provided goodie bags! My kids are now begging to enroll... what a great alternative to the typical bouncy house places. I would recommend this to everyone and plan to tell all my fellow parents about it. Thanks for an awesome party!

It is difficult to put into words the experience I have had at East West Kung Fu. Having studied for over ten years speaks for itself just how exceptional their service and attention to detail is. If you are looking to learn self-defense, discipline, mental focus, or just a have great workout, there is no place out there quite like it. I constantly find myself, even after all this time, being challenged to apply myself and my kung fu skill to the best of my ability. What makes East West so amazing is the people in it. Richard Lee's staff is so supportive to the extent that at some points they know what great things you can accomplish even before you do. You will feel yourself being pushed, you will feel a constant progression in your abilities and skill, and most of all, you will feel like a part of a family with your classmates and teachers. Each person wants to see you succeed and reach your full potential and these bonds you make with the people around you will last a lifetime. Growing up in Richard Lee's East West Kung Fu School, I faced hardships outside of the school especially in my social life and outside factors. If it had not been for my training in martial arts as well as the support and guidance from my teachers, I would not be the outgoing and optimistic person I am today. Now having been a teacher myself for over a year and my mom becoming a student just recently, my outreach in the system continues to expand and I could not be more excited for my future in this system. When I say there is no place out there quite like it, Richard Lee's Kung Fu Schools truly are a life-changing experience. I highly recommend Bok Fu Do, the System of the White Tiger, to all people hoping to try some martial arts or get a great workout. Like me, it may just be one of the greatest journeys you take in your life.
