I came across Elite Self Defense Academy on facebook, I am a lifelong martial artist and I watched the videos on their facebook page with horror. The techniques being shown are extremely dangerous to the person applying them and are completely ineffective in live combat. DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL.

I have to start out by saying how impressed I am about Senei John's passion to help his students to suceed in life. My boy is 7 and when he started he had no confidence, very scared of everything to the point that his grandmother even said she was getting getting worried because she thought he was turning out to be one of those kids who gets beat up all the time and quite frankly before he started at ESDA he was the kids who got beat up in First Grade. By his own classmates. They would throw his stuff in the mud and then push him in it, they pushed him down and kicked him four times, constantly made fun of him because he couldn't read yet. He is now in a new school and is doing so well well with just the environment change but once we started with Senei John he really began to change. Senei taught him how to read, he taught him how not to be afraid to try, he taught him the significance of trying your best and just do it. My son is also learning jijitsu and thats a great teaching tool but my son loves so much more about going. He even wakes up asking if we are going to ESDA first thing. He's in the summer camp now so he gets to go everyday. He'll definitly be in the afterschool program. I actually wish he could be in an all day program with Sensei all year. Another awesome thing is that Sensei offered me a job when we just started with him as a housekeeper, it didn't work out for me but I asked him if I could volunteer in exchange for tuition so he said yes and it's been so amazing. I've learned so much a bout how to teach children and about my own life. I could go on and on but I have to leave for the camp now. Please take the chance to at least go and meet with Sensei and view one of his classes, you will fall in love.

Great school !! Both my kids come here for several months and my older son had his birthday here and all the kids wanted to come !! My younger son has one on one tailored lessons which he truly benefits from! Both of my children enjoy themselves and also learn life lessons like self respect and self reliance and self assurance . They learn jujitsu but more than that they learn the history of what they are doing and so much more than just martial arts.. They learn teamwork .. I have enjoyed watching their lessons each week they have flexible times and great rates for their classes .. They have wonderful summer and holiday camps that my kids can't wait for!! And I feel like they are in a trusting caring respectful environment both Sensi Tim and Sensi John are incredible teachers.. Worth more than they get ..

Don't listen to the previous poster, he doesn't know what he's talking about. I started with Sensei John when I was 8 years old and still study with him now at the age of 19. I was with the dojo when he was accused, and I was a young boy, and I can tell you definitively that it did not happen. What did happen was a boy who molested his own little brother needed a scapegoat to not get in trouble. This kid accused Sensei John, and two other people prior. The charges were dropped before it even went to trial because there was absolutely no evidence of the claims and the people that brought the charges couldn't keep their story straight. Unfortunately some people, such as scammerdf here, don't realize the importance of innocent until proven guilty. Now enough about what Sensei John isn't, let me tell you about Sensei John as I have known him for 11 years. He is a man with a deep love of teaching and studying martial arts. He has huge dedication to his students. He has made his life out of equipping people for success and has very genuine concern for their well being. He doesn't just teach martial arts, he helps students with their lives. I remember when I was around 16 years old I had a lot of problems with my parents and family. Sensei John actually came to my house, and sat down with my parents and me to help make things better many times. Thats the kind of dedication Sensei John has to his students. He is much more than your just average teacher, he is a wonderful and caring role model and life long friend to his students. It is a shame we have people like scammerdf and the Pleasanton city council, people who will judge a man on unfounded claims before even knowing him.
