SVJ is a family-owned and operated judo school. I’ve been a student here since 2005 in the adult program. My boys took classes in the pre-judo and juniors program for many years. The dojo is well cared for and very clean. The instructors are highly qualified and professional. I like that the head instructor incorporates new ideas into the basic throws and pins. It keeps things fresh and challenging. The instructors also help students modify their practices to take into account bad knees, shoulders, etc. The adult classes have students that range in age from teens to some well into their sixties. SVJ has had guest instructors in to do clinics such as Marty Malloy, Olympic bronze medalist and Mike Swain, a five time Olympian. The pre-judo program for children 3 1/2 to 7 is amazing. The kids learn important age-appropriate skills while having lots of fun. This class over time prepares them for the more challenging juniors class when they reach age 8. SVJ has recently started a class for women only called Judo Fit. The female instructors lead challenging yet fun fitness drills and teach basic judo throws and pins. If you are a woman interested in martial arts AND getting in shape, this is the perfect program. Everyone is supportive and encouraging of each other. Silicon Valley Judo is a great school for the whole family.

We had the pleasure of joining SVJ today. I have 5 kids ranged 9 to 13 and live in Nevada. We have no Dojo where we live and since my kids love to compete, we travel to California and visit different Dojos. This club was amazing. Lorne Mayeda Allowed my kids to join in with the adult class and there were alot of brown and black belts in the class. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The Sensei analyzed my kids techniques and had great advice. Sensei Lorne'S father, Ron Mayeda, was also there. After some demonstrations on turn overs, class spent considerable time on Newaza and Randori. Thank you SVJ and the whole crew!
