I currently train at this location of the Sac. MTL Academy and love it. Not long after I started training here Andy K. left and AK King took over as primary trainer - and it has been nothing but good. Everyone is supportive and have good attitudes, and everyone is willing to help out anyone who needs it. The training is intense and rewarding, AK knows what he's doing plus is entertaining and approachable, and the competitive fighters are always willing to give advice and support. Vinnie, the owner is involved and available. This is just all around a great place to train. Some of the fighters and students that left while Andy K. was trainer have returned and told me things similar to Dana White's review below. I did not train under Andy K long enough to have formed an opinion, however it would appear that others had similar problems as Dana. They have apparently been happy with the changes under AK since they have returned and continue to attend. Bottom line - this is a great place to learn Muay Thai.

I'll post a review about this place eventually on my YouTube channel (homelessninja) but for now I'd like to say that training here was a great experience. Great practice for beginner/intermediate level kickboxers. If you are already pretty advanced, you'll need to take private lessons to really learn anything new. I always got a good workout here too, though that wasn't the goal of practice. The instructors AK and Shawn (or Sean, maybe?) are great, and the students are very kind as well. I didn't notice any big egos or any "tough guy" mentality going on there, which is a good indicator of the instructors' personalities. Each class you will jump rope, stretch, do bag work, pad work with a partner, and abbs. Maybe one a week you will shadow box, and sparring is optional at least once a week in the evenings.

Great work out, training and even if you are new they set you up starting at your level I go twice a week but others are 3, 4, 5 times a week, Good crowd

Hello, I hope to add some insight to the public about this gym/school. To begin, do not join unless you want to add some cardio to your workout. Bottom line, YOU WILL NOT LEARN MUAY THAI at this gym. Andy K was a great instructor about 4 years ago; now, he will simply take your money each month and teach you the same old stuff you could learn from a youtube video. This is the daily routine: (1) jump rope; (2) stretch—as fast as you can to get it over with--; (3) shadow punch (jab, jab, cross); (4) body bag work out—the same stuff (jab, jab, cross, with a few kicks sprinkled in); (4) partner technique (same as the body bag); and (5) sit ups. Pretty dang boring if you ask me. So where are the elbows, knees, take downs …? Well, not here. You are better off watching a UFC fight and youtube to get the proper training. Plus, the prices he charges is $135 or $150 a month!! Way too much for tai bo !@#$% There is a reason he wants you to sign up for three months at a time … because he knows he is “hustling” you. To wit, you will not learn any elbow, knee, or other muay thai techniques here. Plus, the few students lucky enough to know it who fight, LOOK DOWN ON NEW STUDENTS AND SIT BACK AND LAUGH QUIETLY AT YOU. This is evident through their demeanor and sly comments to each other. They too know you are getting ripped off. Sorry to break the news but someone had to.
