Highly recommended! The instructors are experienced, firm but caring and lessons are so fun. Great for kids and adults. My teens and I having been training for two years. We love all the discipline, forms, self-defense, grapple and sparring. The instructors are huge about character development and keeping us accountable. There are lots of space to practice. Rates for Spring and summer camps are affordable too. PKSA is the best martial art school in Ann Arbor! This is the best investment for our family!

This is a great school for adults and children of all fitness levels or lack thereof. The martial art is actually Tang Soo Do, a Korean form of Japanese karate. They teach sparring (average weekly, sometimes more, plus every Saturday), self-defense, and forms ("kata" in Japanese arts), so it's a good variety for people who do or do not like to fight. The instructors are realistic about not just teaching the traditional aspects but also the more practical aspects of fighting. There's a large emphasis on the various kicks but more punching and grappling than a typical Tae Kwon Do school. Classes are Mon through Fri (after 5pm) and Saturday (early to noon) so it's a good schedule. Getting a black belt takes four years minimum of active learning, improvement, and memorization, so it's not a "McDojo," and for most, black belt is only the beginning. You will definitely get in better shape and flexibility with this school. The staff and the students are not intimidating, and always welcoming and personable, but there are traditional rules to follow (bowing in, dress code, etc.). All in all, you will get out of it what you put into it. Great place for all ages.
